Just wondered if anyone had any knowledge of Duty Free in Oman. Its somewhere I've not been before and wondered whether its worth planning to purchase a couple of boxes when I'm out there.

      Oman.

Never been in that part of the world, but know lads who work there.I will ask around if anyone knows any of the details. To be honest i think it is a lottery depending on the country you end up in while in that part of the world. As a rule more pipes are smoked in that part of the world and cigars are not regulated as they are in the EU.

There was a great humidor in Dubai airport when I was out there a few years ago but in classic rock and roll fashion we came off stage at 1am and got on the plane at 6am so apart from grabbing a box of Cohibas I didn't get a good mooch. I never got a good look in Jordan either however we're in Oman for two nights with a reasonable flight back on the last day so I should get a) a chance to look around where ever it is we're staying and b) an hour or two at the airport. I think we're in Muscat but to be honest that could just be where we're landing.

          Fakes.

I know that in some of the smaller Middle East countries there is no official Habanos importer and this means you have more likelyhood of fakes if you are lucky enough to find a shop stocking cigars.

Right for anyone planning a trip to Oman... i've been scraping around and discovered they do have an official Habanos distributor but it seems like the only official dealer is at Muscat Airport. The prices are pretty good (about ?150-?160 for 25 Monte 2s and about ?200 for a box of Cohiba Robustos as a guide) so if thats where I'm flying out of I'll let you know how it all looks out there.

It seems the Habanos distributor for Oman is Phoenicia Trading A.A. (Cyprus) Ltd from here http://www.habanos.com/distributors.aspx?type=&rid=3 their site is http://www.phoenicia.com.cy/default.php No prices on their sites, but hope this helps.
