  • Any Cobs or Clay folk?

Hi guys, just wondering if any on the forum smoke (or have tried) smoking corn cobs or clay pipes. Considering investing in these to save money on the tobacco and from all I've heard and read these varieties smoke nicely and are good for sampling tobaccos, cobs especially.

Thanks in anticipation guys hope you're all well,

    Bert

I don't like clay pipes because they get very, very hot and are fragile. I have 3 corn cobs that I use for sampling tobaccos, smoking outside (walking the dog, working in the garden, etc.).
If you take care of them they can last forever; there are some guys on a french pipe forum who still smoke their 20 years old cobs!
My recommandation: buy 2 or more cobs, plus several replacement stems. These stems (made of plastic, not ebonite or acrylic) look terrible after a few months of use if you're a hard clencher.

I've got a cob, I got it for when i went sea fishing... If it goes over board I'm more annoyed that i can't smoke as opposed to that I lost a pipe.

The give a sweet taste when new. Cheap, and a bit of fun.

Look up forever stems, they are not cheap, but the idea is that you keep the stem once the pipe is finished and get a new pipe.

Just to follow up on this,

Bought myself a cob yesterday. Have to say I'm very pleased with how it smokes,a nice change from the briar, will definitely be using these for sampling and when out and about.
