  • Gauntleys house blends

Looking to try a few different tobaccos to take on my holidays and was wondering if anyone has tried any of Gauntleys house blends?

    Cheers.

I've tried a few of them Can't remember which one's). They're OK, but, I prefer the tried and trusted blends like 'Old Dublin' 'London Mixture' etc.
Another one I think is excellent is Robert Lewis 123 mixture.

I've had Deliverance and thought it was quite a nice smoke, it stayed lit well and didn't get overly harsh towards the bottom of the bowl.

Although I did smoke it through a Falcon pipe so that may have had some effect on it...

I like Nottingham Blend a lot, the addition of cigar leaf I'm sure makes the transition between a pipe and cigar smoking that much more seamless. I've also had the past 2 years limited xmas blends (very good indeed), and Yataghan (again, good). Reading Glynn's various blogs I get the impression that each blend is refined by testing with local smokers at the Nottingham pipe club meets, and it is great to still have a tobacconist that actually blends their own unique blends, as opposed to just rebadging generic blends like most seem to these days.

Gauntleys helpfully do a good value sampler - http://cigars.gauntleys.com/product5...-4-x-13g-loose - although I'm pretty sure if you gave Glynn a call he'd probably be happy to sample a different selection too.
