  • A Trip To Islay

Just back from another great trip to Islay. I brought some whisky to add to my collection:

    Ardbeg Day
    Laphroaig Cairdeas
    Caol Ila Cask Strength

Certainly the Ardbeg and Caol Ila are special bottlings that are only available from the distilleries, I'm not sure about the Cairdeas. All are very tasty and will go down well with a cigar or two.

I was very tempted by a 20 year old Bruichladdich Valinch bottling as well but managed to resist, just.

I also brought a bottle of Botanist Gin back for my sister who is a fan and a bottle of the Caol Ila for my Dad.

I visited the Islay Brewery and bought a few bottles of beer back too.

I'll add some pics once I've unpacked.

I've unpacked now and here are the pics.

Nice, my brother is going there in a few weeks so he's going to have to bring me some ardbeg back. I'm running low on the good malts, down to my last half a bottle of Benrimach 10 and quarter of ledaig

I've got a great cigar collection - it's actually not a collection, because that would imply I wasn't going to smoke every last one of 'em.

I'm interested to hear your opinion on the Ardbeg, I do love them, in particular the Corryvreckan.

                Great haul btw

                  Dave

I am an Ardbeg fan so am hopeful that I will enjoy it. I loved the original Corryvreckan when it came out. The first bottling was a Committee Reserve bottling and was superb. The second bottling is very good but not quite as good as the first one (IMHO).

I did buy them all to open so will put some opinion up once the corks are drawn. This is good news for people who bought the Ardbeg to sell (I saw it at twice the retail price when I was on Islay and it was still available from the distillery then, heaven knows what people will try to charge once the distillery has none left) as there will be one bottle less when mine goes.

Nice haul of Whisky mate. The Laddie in any guise is a winner IMO. Enjoy them(I`m sure you will). Not jealous or anything like that.

Nice looking selection there. I love Islay malts, the smoker the better for me.

How are the ales? Not seen them before and I'm always on the look out for new ales.

great haul there, wardjrz! i'm investigating the possibilities of a trip to islay in august for a similar reason! been getting into the islay whiskies big time, especially bruichladdich's output! so far, a 3 day trip, including car hire, is working out at around ?160 each for my missus and i! that's taking the ferry from ballycastle to campbelltown, busing it up to kinnecraig and getting the calmac ferry to port askaig, where we collect our rented car! staying at the ballygrant inn....

Islay makes great whisky and there is one for every taste from delicate to aggressive. It is a great place to explore, not just for whisky drinkers.

PM me if you're interested. I've been over to Islay quite a few times and may be able to help planning if you need it.

                          Cheers
