  • NC's from the States

    Afternoon.

A couple of friends are heading back to the states soon to visit their folks and they have kindly offered (after dropping a lot of hints) to bring me back thier limit each of cigars. Any idea what the limit is? I am going to need to think about making a coolerdor for the new arrivals lol

What are the best smokes from accross the pond? I am going to put a order togeather and have it delivered to their address in LA to save them having to go out of their way to pick them up so can anyone recommend a good site in the US they have ordered fom.

    Thanks or your help guys.

I have heard a lot about a site called Atlantic cigars, maybe give them a go? Also, I have never tried them but the A.Fuente Short Story is meant to be very good as well as a lot of the Cain and Ashton brand

One issue you will find using some of the US sites is they will not charge a non-US card or account, even if you are having it shipped to a US address.

And if you are thinking of NC cigars well worth a try are some of the following

        - H Upmann Vintage Cameroons
        - Most Torano's (1916, Casa Torano, Exodus)
        - Rocky Patel Edge, Vintage and Sun Growns
        - Fuente put out a range of fantastic cigars
        - Liga Pravada's that I have had have been brilliant

I'm sure others will be even more helpful and informative!

I'd suggest that you should try to get your hands on some Padrons (amazing smokes IMO) and the Oliva V series is fantastic. I agree with Roger that most cigars produced by Fuente and Rocky Patel are excellent. If I was bringing back 100 cigars from the states, I'd probably stick to these 4 brands. But I'm sure that there are loads of other good smokes to be had in the US, many of which I won't have tried - these are just the ones that I've found to be consistently enjoyable.

Thanks for the suggestions, Atlantic Cigars do a 20 cigar sampler for $50 which includes most of those mentioned above. So, five samplers or 4 boxes...

Luckily they still have an american bank account so i should be ok to get around using a UK credit/debit card.

I've noticed Atlantic do the Nat Sherman Host cigars so they are on my list no matter what as ive been trying to find them for ages and the only place which has them is Gauntleys in Notts but the price difference is $72 compared to ?195... no brainer!

Famous Smoke,Cigars International and Pipesandcigars.com are also worth checking out on the quest for NCs!

If they have an american bank account and you can transfer the cash to them that is a winner

The three sites above are the best I found so far. All three do a lot of international shipping as well.
As for the cigars a few other come to mind that are big hits right now in the states...and I've had them all.

Joya De Nicaragua Antano 1970..also in the dark corojo. Full, rich, and powerful.

Viaje Cigars...small boutique brand that is putting out some amazing stuff right now.

San Lotano...They have the Oval, Habano, Maduro and Connecticut

I can come up with more, but I'll have to give it a think.

Thanks for the suggestions fellas, my list just keeps getting longer lol

The more I look into this the more I think I may be better off with boxes of 5 so I can sample as many as possible. What are your opinions?

Spot on mate, I think 5 is more than enough of a cigar you have never had before. Maybe just 2 or 3 singles of the ones you arent too fussed about too?

5 is a good number to try with a new cigar you've not had, but never go with less then two. When I first got into cigars I would always buy singles. Sometimes they would be great, or bad. When I went and tried them again, I might find the reverse. When I started buying doubles, I found it much easier to judge.

Thanks James and smokem, boxes of 5 it is...

I also found that out in the shot time I've been smoking cigars. I had, what i presumed was a plugged Uppman Petit Corona which put me of ordering another until a friend gave me a second one which I really enjoyed... Lesson learnt, especially when trying something new I guess.

This exactly how i get all my NC smokes! Just got 50 in my last haul from a friend yesterday, all five packs. I use Famous-smoke.com they will ship to any address with a UK card, you just need to get your first order sent to your own address. So i got a box of matches for about $30. Its definitely payed for itself though. Now if anyone i know crosses the pond i can get em sent to their hotel. Famous also does something called 5-pack frenzy where you get one in every 4 5-packs free.
Cigar wise id get a couple of Padron samplers!! That's a must (the 88 is reasonably priced)!
Arturo Fuente Hemmingways are great! The "Best seller" is my fave ..
Oliva serie G and V are great well priced smokes.
Basically there seems to be a general consensus that Padron, Arturo Fuente and Oliva produce some of the best, most consistent NC's going...

Nice one... But you will be to blame when the wife finds out as im not sure "but i saved $20 making my order only $180 and i got a free box!" lol

Im going for a selection of fives plus a sampler:
                              Rocky Patel Rosado Robusto (5)
Rocky Patel Sun Grown Robusto (5)
Arturo Fuente Hemmingway Best Seller (5)
                              Arturo Fuente Short Story (5)
                              Olivia V Churchill Extra (5)
                              Olivia Serie G Toro (5)
                              Padron Sampler 88 (5) x 2

Any there that anyone doesnt recommend?
