  • Alec Bradley Prensado Churchill box press.

Okay so here goes, first one of this series from me.

Note before we begin, don't let me sway you one way or tother as I know very little about most things apart from Anteaters, Lego and stupid Italian bikes that don't start when we finally have a decent evening (hence the review).

Well here's the winner for this year.

    Name: Alec Bradley Prensado
Leaf: Honduran Wrapper, Nicaraguan wrapper and a H & N Filler.
    Type: Box press Churchill
Cost: About seven of her majesties finest.

It's a Box press Churchill, the constuction is nearly flawless with a very uniform dark brown colour, with a few fine veins, the cap though looks a little bit less than perfect. The cigar is firm to the touch......snip snip.

The prelight draw is a little tight however this may be down to my humi which is at 71% at the moment, predraw is......wow, spicey, very spicey, other than that barny kind of flavours and pepper.....oh hell let's light it.

Okay, very peppery, spicey with a definate note of Chestnuts.....no idea why chestnuts but that nutty sweet taste, plus huge gouts of pleasing white smoke. The ash is salt and peppery and not particularly attractive. At about 1 inch in the spice has settled a little, it's still there, there's still the earthiness and pepper with something else that I can't put my finger on. The burn though isn't exactly even though which i'm also putting down to the humidity.

As things progress, i'm getting Celery, spice (but far more mild) pepper and a neutral kind of earth or something (not quite sure what), a slight bitterness at the back of the throat, but not unpleasant. However the burn is still not great and like many NC's you end up wit the ash falling off every inch or less.

My god Steven Segal's face got fat

On to the last bit, the cigar has mellowed nicely, there's still a little spice, a more subtle pepperiness and I guess what people would call a butteriness and freshlycut grass, it's settles into a nice relaxing smoke, nothing harsh at all. Though the burn still isn't great, still I didn't need to relight, though a few times I went to get a drink I did have to give a few puffs.

So, what did I think, well like I said construction was good, burn wasn't great but overall taste was very nice, I thoroughly enjoyed this cigar, I don't usually like Churchills as they're a little too big, i'd rather have two robustos instead, nor am I a huge fan of Box pressed cigars. But like I said, a very nice and interesting smoke......

But, the real question, is this the cigar of the year? Well to be honest, I really don't think I'm good enough to answer this, but if you are asking i'd say that there are plenty of other cigars out there just as good....yes, that's a cop out, it's definately in the top 5 and I would certaintly rate it higher than some others like the Siglo VI as its just so much more interesting....but then that's just me.

I hope you enjoy yours as much as I did.

    Notes:
    Smoked with Spiced Rum
Lego thanks to Zigatoh Mr top chap
Needed to relight in the final 3/4 inch as I wrote this so gave up.
I think the Salmon I had for dinner was a little past it's best
New stinky ashtray performed like a good ashtray.
    God I hate spders

Great review, I've had one of the other sizes and didn't rate it much. But everyone likes different cigars.

I've got a great cigar collection - it's actually not a collection, because that would imply I wasn't going to smoke every last one of 'em.

Nice review. The Italian non starter- Ducati? If so it probably just because it's a day with a Y in it, or all the electricity has evaporated.

Very nice review! it's certainly a beautiful looking stick and if it smokes half as nice as it looks, feels and smells then it's gonna be a real treat!

Nice review, looks like a beautiful stick to look at....what was with that ash?? I can't wait to try one! Love the pictures It'd be cool if everyone who got these posted their thoughts on this thread (if thats ok with you Yeti), I'd be really interested to see what different people think. I will certainly do the same

Had one of mine last night (thanks again to Sir Yeti) really a very nice smoke (caveat here - I 'only' smoke Cubans apart from maybe a couple dozen NCs ever, and whatever way you think it goes they Do taste different...) general themes I got were similar to Yeti, nutty flavours throughout, earthiness, some light spice and some coffee in the second third. Really good 'mouthfeel', creamy texture (not flavour) and copious smoke.

Burn was a bit wayward but nothing too serious, though if you left it for more than a minute it took a bit of puffing to get going - on that note though, you could give this thing a caning, double puffing and so on, without it getting hot or harsh at all - i could easily see this as one of those cigars you might have clamped between your teeth, puffing away subconsciously while doing some other task...
That ash was a bit weird though, pretty ugly, salt and pepper but also whole sections in differing shades of grey, and it looked liked it could fall off any moment all canyony and broken, but it seemed quite crisp when I broke it off in the ashtray!

Did get a bit of that bitterness in the back of the throat (which I never really get with CCs) but it never went so far as to be unpleasant, just a bit dry and bitter really.

Overall a very nice and satisfying smoke, i couldn't put it top five or even top ten for me in the last year, but then I've had some ridiculously good smokes in that time (PL Valiosos, Monte GE/Sublimes, Boli GM, 1966, LGC ER, etc) but if I was in the states I'd definitely buy this again and the value for money is exceptional imo.

cheers again Yeti, great to get these opportunities to try different smokes.

Yeah, I agree with most of that matey, though I think mine was a lot more spicey in the beginning.

You're right about the ash, it was crap in a word and yes, if you left it for any time at all it needed a few puffs.

Certainly not worthy of the winning position and correct me if i'm wrong but CA do also cover CCs correct?

Yeah they do, and don't get me wrong, I'm not even saying a CC should always get no 1 or anything, but there are plenty of better cigars out there than the ABPC above, NCs and CCs I'm sure, then again it is a very well priced stick as well, which I believe they take into account rather than it just being 25 best cigars money and rarity no object...

We should start our own Aficionado magazine mate, imagine how awesome it could be, we could also have boobies and motorbikes and dinosaurs and ....oh my this could be a work of art

Front cover issue #1 A Female Triceratops lying down with Willis Jackson (Different strokes) curled up naked (apart from a pair of white alpine star boots) between the Dinosaur's legs with one of your Grand Edmundos and a bottle of Yeti's home made Rum.......ooooh yeah.

                    Could be a seller

Sounds like a winner, it would be the favourite publication of cigar-smoking surrealists, dinosaur lovers and lego aficionados everywhere!

You make your own rum??!! I love the stuff but always thought that it took loads of equipment and know-how to make it so never thought of doing it at home. I doff my imaginary bowler hat to you sir!

Some good stuff here. When I smoke mine I'll chip in. The Corona Gorda's are great, but still somewhat off a decent CC imo.

I'd buy it! You should add a short story section and continue that crazy tale from a few weeks back.
