  • Recommended alcohol units per day? STUFF THAT!

I'm a whiskey drinker, lets not sugar coat it - A BIG ONE.

I love the smell of whiskey, the taste, the look, just everything about it.

For over 40 years I've been putting myself to bed at night with several wee drams (on the rocks) and I would rather give up the cigarettes than that, I just adore it.

Are there any other whiskey drinkers out here?

P.S. I smoke Glenlivet Whiskey - SCOTTISH! The best.

You smoke Glenlivet? Good effort :-)

Am quite a whisky drinker myself - huge fan of Islay Storm and anything made at Mortlach or Tomatin.

There are lots of whisky drinkers on here, you're in good company.

Not sure about drinking them on the rocks though especially before bedtime - think it would give me nightmares about falling off. But then each to his own, you bought it so you drink it where you like.

I prefer straight with maybe a drop or two of water depending on how I feel. I haven't found many single malts I don't like. I used to be a bit sniffy about blends but more recently I have found that there are a lot that are worth a look at. I do like an aged grain whisky though they smell like a sweetie shop used to smell when I was a kid.

        Welcome by the way.

I must say I have tried but cannot find a whiskey superior to Glenlivet 18 Year Old Single Malt.

It is a bit pricey at ?40 a bottle (and a bottle lasts me about half an hour!!) but I've worked hard and saved hard so why not spend my money on something to help my retirement go along nicely?

(and a bottle lasts me about half an hour!!) is what I'd look like

My word that is some thirst you have.

Is that intravenously or does it come in a brown paper bag?

A pint of lager often lasts me half an hour.

I have found that many malts are really nice at 18 years old. Older is not always better and there are some excellent young whiskies about.

Glenlivet is an excellent 18 year old as is Highland Park (my favourite 18 year old), Talisker, Laphroaig, Bunnahabhain etc. etc.

I was exaggerating a tad, but it isn't unusual for me to polish off a bottle in a night. Some would see that as excessive but I've been drinking for so many years now that I think my body is immune to the alcohol so I'm hardly staggering around drunk - that's when I've had two bottles!

I think some would call a bottle of spirit in a night a serious problem.

20-30 cigarettes, 75 cl of whisky, what else? 2 Big Macs followed by 1 liter of ice cream for lunch?

You forgot the 5-6 cups of coffee first thing in the morning!

1 bottle is about 30 units therefor you are getting through 250 units a week?, as the recommendation is 21 per week I'd cut back. Just cos you don't go to the meetings doesn't mean you aren't an alcoholic with a serious problem.

I'd also question if you were ever sober enough to drive safely.

[QUOTE=Eddie;180766] an alcoholic with a serious problem. [QUOTE]

To be honest he seems to be a bit half-hearted about it. If he's going to drink a bottle of spirits and 6 cups of coffee and smoke 30 cigarettes every day he might as well mix them all together and inject them!

P.S. Please don't take this as serious advice malboroman, I'd hate this forum to be shut down just because someone took my advice and died from injecting soggy Marlboro reds into himself!

Yep...after a litre of spirits he would probably need heavy machinery to give him a helping hand!
