  • Interview

I finally have a very promising interview this afternoon.

I have been "stuck" in my current role for the last 5 years, after originally joining for 6 months. There is no chance of progression where I am, so I have been testing the waters every now and then for other jobs.

My CV pretty much matches what they are after in the job description, and I have actually been really looking forward to the interview, rather than dreading it. I think it makes a huge difference looking for a job if you are already in one.

Whatever happens I bought one of my all time favourite smokes (HDM Petit Robusto) to enjoy afterwards

Good luck mate. Hate being stuck in a rut. Even if it doesn't work out, keep plugging your CV out there, something will turn up eventually.

I've got a great cigar collection - it's actually not a collection, because that would imply I wasn't going to smoke every last one of 'em.

Good luck with the interview. Hope this gets to you in time.

It may sound silly but my advice is:
Listen to the question and answer it as best you can. Then make sure that you have answered it completely ensuring that you have given the answer to the question they asked not what you want to tell them. They will have things they are looking for and if you don't give them they can't give you the job.

They won't assume information either so make sure you give complete answers.

If you can work in stories that demonstrate your competence all the better. What you have done is much more valuable than what you know. Most people can learn knowledge but not everyone can deliver the goods.

Don't rush - it is OK to take a few seconds to think about your answer. (engage brain before gob).

I train interviewers and create assessment centres as part of my job.

p.s. enjoy the stick whenever you smoke it.

                    Cheers guys!

It went really well, came out feeling very positive.

I will hear the news this time next week, but he asked me to think about the job for a couple of days and send him an email with my thoughts.

I came home and lit my old faithful. My first "punch" experience rather than a cut!

Hope the news is positive when it comes Adam. The fact he has asked you to e-mail him with your thoughts seems a positive sign. I'm in the middle of switching jobs too as I have found it difficult to find something that is a good fit for me since I left the Navy. Hopefully, we will both be happy in our new jobs! Best wishes, Nick.
