We'll post a review here when I'm finished.

    A. Fuente 858 Claro Review:

The A. Fuente 858 comes standard with three wrappers: Natural, Maduro, and Claro. And I believe once a year they add a "rosado" wraper at an increased price. I think I've had one of these, but don't recall much about it.

As I've said many times on this fine forum, the 858 is a good "value stick," (58 pesos, 4.50 US dollars, and 2.77 British Pounds), and a great way to spare your fine puros.

The 858 generally is a mild stick, not too complex, but consistent to the end. The Claro wrapper adds a bit of sweetness to the flavor, but beyond that, about the same as the others. And like most NCs, it has a very nice draw (I used a punch), and yields a mouthful of creamy smoke. It's easy to smoke anytime, but would likely be overwhelmed by anything stronger that a beer or soft drink. The texture was smooth and creamy; the burn excellent! A nice, even burn which did not require relighting or a touch up. I purged it once at the two-thirds mark, which seemed to smooth it out a bit! . Smoke time was about 1 hour, but I'm a very slow smoker.

That's about it. As I've said before, I don't have a very sophisticated palat, so I can't identify the subtle flavors beyond what I've mentioned above. But I really like this cigar. It's my go-to stick when I don't feel like sparking up a puro. So I usually keep a box or two in don TJ's massive unit. Give it a go sometime and see what you think!

    I hope you enjoyed it!

Nice review TJ...so I guess the wrapper doesn't make much difference to the flavour? I've had the 858 natural and found it enjoyable if slightly one-dimensional - a good budget stick, as you said.

Exactly, although I think the wrapper type adds enough flavor to make each distinctive. My order of preference generally runs (1) natural, (2) claro, and (3) maduro. However, the recent claros are grabbing my attention at the moment.

Good review TJ .... only trouble is we have to shift the decimal point once to the left to buy one in the UK!

On the plus side, I do have one in the humi.
