  • my new humi

this is my new (and first proper) humidor fingers crossed it will arrive tomorrow they have only just listed it on the site today, mine ordered so I got in first. https://www.thebackyshop.co.uk/produ...isplay-humidor it should do a better job than my rocky patel box with a xikar stick in it but it worked and did the job for me!

Looks great chap, great price too!

I'm curious about how it works, in the description it only seems to describe the display part, but surely there is space behind it you can cram some sticks in?

I thought that too that there may be space under the display next to the humidifier ill have a look when it comes and take some pics. I like the idea of the draw at the back.

Hello donks...I may sound harsh so forgive me...

I don't think you'll like this humidor very much & it would be remiss of me not to say why...
I think you'll very quickly find it too small, you will want to replace the hygrometer in no time for a digital type (most fitted to humis are cheap & innacurate.) It has a sponge humidifier that you'll want to replace the minute you get it...
It's actually too big for the job you want it for, a lot of space wasted just to get a display angle...and any Baccy shop that says to keep matches in a humidor is away with the fairies....
Donks this is just my 2 cents worth...I don't wish to offend but I do care what people buy on their first experience,,I'll have a look around the web to see what's about....
            Puff.

Tupperware Lock&Lock box + digital hygrometer (Caliber III) and 65% RH beads = cheap, reliable and simple setup.

Get the tupperware from Amazon the hygro and beads from C.Gars LTD.

That's my advice; after having tried other soloutions this is the one that has proven to work best for me.

thanks puff I appreciate the advice and I know you mean well, I know what you mean about the humidifier and I have already sent for some 2 way beads to replace it so it self regulates itself, I know its a display one (its supposed to display nub cigars) that's partly why I got it, and I agree and wont be keeping my matches in it or my lighter or cutters in it, it will be just my cigars, my old rocky patel box will be demoted to keeping all my cigar accessories.
and also as its not too big it wont cost me a fortune to fill it I struggle to afford my cigars and always buy in singles and its a vast improvement on my present set up. I have saved for a long time to afford this its going to be a challenge to fill it but a challenge ill enjoy.
I really do appreciate any advice as I am a newbie to premiums (been getting premiums for about 2 years prior to that I had the odd one or three premiums on special occasions but I have smoked machine made since I was 14) so please continue to send any advice.

...i tell you the funniest thing, i have put all my boxes in a big plastic box with a digi hygro and was fretting about beads vs cat litter etc, anyway, my box has kept it at a steady 67 since i've been using it and no beads!! ...although i have got silica cat litter when i need it!

You'll have fun playing with your new humi and watching it fill no matter what! Enjoy!

Cheers donks, I wish you well...

Funks..one to make you grin..I've an old display humi on top of the piano..nothing special...plastic lid, grille foam humidifier, varnished sides, you know the sort....I don't think I use more than a teaspoon of water in it twice a year...stays rock solid..if only I knew why!!!

fingers crossed mine will be easy to keep up to, I have a couple of xikar water pillows to put in for a few days to get it going and get some humidity into the cedar to work along side the beads I wont be putting any cigars in for a bit yet.

hi the draw at the back that the humidifier goes in will fit a few cigars in I put a rp 1990 vintage torpedo in just to try and about 5 would fill it but that's with me replacing humidifier with an xikar stick, im not filling it up for a few days though not till humidity levels out at 70%

thanks Pete i thought that too I don't want it to be a greenhouse, I have chosen a spot for it out of direct light and not near central heating, im sure there is something im forgetting though.
