  • Humidor is getting full now!

I have to confess...in the beginning, if had to spend money on cigars, I probably would have never gotten into them. Fortunately, I have a loyal customer that loves his tobacco, and has an extensive collection of aged Cuban cigars and pipe blends. I'm so glad he introduced me to fine smokes, as I now prefer cigars over the pipe. He loves pipes as much as cigars, and commissioned a seven day set of high grade smooth pipes in exchange for cigars.

The first lot he brought (when I first joined this very fine forum) was a Box of Cohiba Secretos, A box of Cohiba Exquisitos, and a box of Trinidad Reyes.

Today he arrived with the final lot:

    5 Hoyo de Deiux
    2 Montecristo No.1
    2 Bolivar Especiales No.2
    1 La Gloria Medaille d'Or No.1
    3 Trinidad Fundadores
    1 Cohiba Piramides LE 2006
1 Hoya de Monterrey Piramides RE 2003
1 Hoya de Monterrey Especial LE 2004

    Box of 25 Cohiba Secretos
    3 boxes Cohiba Minis
    2 boxes Cohiba Clubs

I'm absolutely overjoyed, and now my humidor is 2/3 full, and he is already planning more pipes! He also has a lot of pipes that need opened up to smoke better in exchange for aged pipe tins. I'm in tobacco heaven!

They are quite a few years old...I'll have to ask him the dates of the singles so I can enter it in a spreadsheet.

And no, Batler, they aren't free...I making a set of seven smoking pipes in exchange (making pipes is my living). Smoking pipes for collectors go for a lot more (like hundreds more) than the machine made variety most often found in the UK.

Those Secreto's look great. You have some great smokes there.

Are you sure you enjoy them more than the pipe or could it be that it is still relatively new for you so has a novelty value?

Good point. Pipes are still my daily go to smoke, and I enjoy them. The pipe is very economical and the blends available are never-ending. There are a LOT of great pipe blends out there...most often one will have to look outside of the UK to find them. But when it comes down to a rich, long and satisfying smoke, a cigar can't be beat. Yes, newness in the hobby does factor in, but after smoking a pipe for 12 years in every shape and size, and sampling hundreds of blends, I have found nothing that compares to a cuban smoke. Every pipe smoker looks for his "nirvana" moment, where everything comes together just right for a great experience. I had a few of them myself. But after discovering cigars, I have a great "nirvana" smoke much more frequently. I think it would be good to point out and remind myself, however, that it's not so much about one being better than the other, just different. You will not find a cigar that has the deep smoky flavour of a dark Syrian tobacco, or a blend with fermented Louisiana perique. Each has its own place in the cellar or humidor.

No, I haven't posted pipe pictures, I didn't want to join UKCF to drum up business or toot my own horn (much)! You are welcome to click on my signature bar below and look at the gallery on my website. The story of why I came to the UK and how I got into pipes, and a picture-ography of my workshop is also in the pages.

Works of art, they are...absolutely beautiful! I'm glad I asked.

Perhaps one day I will commission you to make one for the late, great don TJ Coro.

Names Perro, el Perro, and I just might have to have one of those beautiful pipes meself....on day!

Hey el P! You forgot to mention that you fixed senor Larrysons' post so the quote stands out.
