Check out the Master cigars case to see what H&F thinks of grey imports.

Has this stuff spread into stores or is it mainly occurring over internet sites?
You would of thought that vendors would check their stock.

The courts maybe, kinda, possibly agree with you but it would cost you a fortune in legal fees if H&F decided to fight the case. Grey imports (imports without the agreement of the company) are ilegal from outside the EU and treated the same as counterfeit goods.

Who is the "legitimate" here? Everything in this story is grey, at the borderline, etc. To begin with, it's illegal for anyone in Spain to ship cigars to a foreign country?

No, except tons of paperworks in the UK (I guess), and maybe the fact that having to deal with a lobby of former cuban militaries for whom the word "corruption" has not the same meaning it has for you is not exactly easy…

Parallel imports, H&F fought a case and won, this was as far as I can see overturned by the court of appeal.

Unless the Cuban government have a restriction on how many cigars you can bring back with you, what is to stop you flying there filling up your suitcase and getting the plane back, then going through the red channel at customs?.

I don't know what you are saying there but what I am saying is very simple.

If you think it is doable go for it and we'll buy our cigars from you.

Whoa whoa hold your horses Monkey! Nothing against Joao La Pez, but on what grounds would we trust he's not throwing some fraudulent cigars into the batches he brings back from Cuba?

Just seems like an uphill battle guys that is hardly worth your arguing.

I certainly would not be selling them personal consumption only.

Just sounds like you are playing the company tune to me. No offense intended. But, every mention of anything that would take business away from the UK distributors is pooh poohed or rubbished.

In the Judgement of the court of appeal, the ruling was that HSA receive a 2% payment from the official shops in Cuba and that is enough to be taken as consent to allow parallel imports, if this incorrect then i cannot find a later judgement over that, as long as the limit of $25,000 is not exceeded in a single purchase.

It's going to be fun bringing ?15,000 of Cigars through the red channel at Heathrow

Mind I could always buy from NC sources and avoid all the hassle.
