  • DUNHILL 'NIGHTCAP'

    evening all,
just thought i'd do a quick post on the dunhill nightcap i had this evening!!

i haven't had a pipe in a couple of months, and since it isn't exactly the weather/ time of the evening to have a cigar, i thought i'd have a bowl of nightcap!! what a lovely smoke this was!! it was cool, with a lovely aroma of oak, strong tea (really stewed assam) and old leather!!! the taste was lovely, woody, earthy, mild spice..... quite how i imagine a gentlemen's club would've smelled a 100 years ago!! the nicotine was present, strong enough to relax but not induce nausea!!! a great tobacco to sit, relax and ponder life over!!!

Hi Alex - I have a tin of Dunhill Nightcap, about half empty and enjoy an occasional bowl. I suppose I've had it for about 5 months so my one tin will last about a year. It's not a tobacco I could adopt as my 'regular' but it's certainly an enjoyable, occasional smoke. You're right about those flavours coming through - they are quite distinct without any one of them dominating the smoke. I also don't mix my pipes - I have two for the Nightcap only so flavours aren't contaminated.

      hey david,
i totally agree with you!!! as much as i enjoyed this, i've only had a couple of bowls of this since buying a tin about 4 months ago! my father in law, who gave me his some of his antique peterson's pipes recommended it, and he also recommended, should i buy and like it, keep a pipe especially for it!!! doing some homework, seems it's because of the perique used in the blend!!

incidentally, i also read somewhere that the infamous occultist aleister crowley used to smoke only expensive perique tobacco he soaked it very expensive rum!!! guess that's like someone eating only truffle sandwiches!! lol

Alex - Yes, too much perique can also affect the taste buds. It's a bit like latakia - how folk can smoke Balkan Sobranie non stop is beyond me - surely it destroys any sensitivity to taste and must taint everything else they consume. I'll stick with the Walnut Flake as my mainstay although it is nice to stray every once in a while.

since i'm pretty new to pipe smoking, and smoke a pipe only once in a while, i'll be sticking to my peterson tobaccos (luxury blend, nutty cut, sherlock holmes and old dublin)!!! the dunhill nightcap makes a nice change!!! i've also got some early morning.....
