  • Bolivar Petit Coronas

Cuban, Length 129mm Gauge 42 UK cost ?8.99
    My first Bolivar.

Out of the humidor at 68%rh 22`c, enjoyed with a can of Heineken.

Appearance\construction; Looks slightly untidy in places but acceptable, Stick has a slight spring across its length, pleasing mild tobacco and wood odours.

    start.jpg
Pre draw had a slight resistance, immediate flavours on the lips.

1\3;From the start I am getting copious amounts of smoke from a slightly firm draw. Complex flavours of Cinnamon and black coffee. Full flavoured and strong; wow.

2\3; This is without doubt the most complex smoke I have had, now getting almost a sweetness coming through and the coffee has subsided to a dark chocolate flavour. The burn is slow and even with the consistantly falling at 1 inch.

3\3; Flavours have changed slightly, now a bit more muted with less individual tastes, perhaps more wood than spice, an extemporary burn just needed a slight correction right at the end. Draw firmed up a touch, but never difficult.

Conclusion; After an hour I left the last 1\2 inch. I expected a lot from Bolivar, and it delivered, possibly the best smoke I have had so far. Have read of some variation in quality, but I was very happy with mine, just struggling to not light one of the others. Definitely a "thumbs up"

Yes David, one of my favourites too. Haven't had one for a while as I've focussed on Cohibas but your observation re coffee/chocolate co-incides with my taste of this beauty - and I don't have the delicacy of palate that you clearly have. I believe you get a lot of cigar from this one and I can't remember smoking a bad'un. Thanks for the review.

Honest appraisal Mr Gabon, and yes brilliant cigar but not for the frivolous. You're correct to hang on to the remainder, a few years and the tastes become more complex and more effervescent .... though the buggers don't get any the milder!
If you want to, you can.
And, if you can, you must!

But how many years? There is a limit as to how much i can import AND keep as opposed to import to smoke.

Would love to know the year myself, however, all of my current stock is from samplers ordered before Christmas, did not have the knowledge to ask for box dates.

Probably the best of all the Boli's...I'll get shot down for that by the GM lovers..but it's a shame it's bigger brothers can't keep up...

Good review Dave, I have always thought the Boli PC to be a real mini powerhouse, had one after beakfast once - wow too much for my delicate stomach! As a guide 5yrs age for Boli's, 3yrs for most other Havanas sees me right.
