Out this morning, 0oc Air, 3oc water temp. Ice still on the far side of the pit. Cast out my deadbaits & waited the action. On Sat it was -6oc & 2/3 of the pit was covered in ice, no runs that day but was able to put some chopped up fish in the swim to hopefully attract the pike.
0930 the far Delkim rang out, I grabbed the landing net & went to the platform, picking up the rod I noted the float was under the surface & the line still paying out. Wound down & leaned into the fish. Good short scrap considering the temp & my biggest fish for 4yrs was secure.
Had a 16lb 08 last month but this one beat that at 17lb 03.IMG_0116b.jpg The best news was it was a different fish, this one being only 93cms long & the prev fish was 97cm. As you can see from the pic, it's a fin perfect specimen, probably never been caught before.
1115 had another run after moving a half herring, with in 5mins it was away with a 9lb'er. Nice brace.IMG_0119a.jpg
Something suitable will be smoked on Thurs, when I am going out all day for more wild action.
