  • Top 3 Pink Floyd Albums?

Always wanted to start a forum message with strangers on this subject.

    My list goes:
    1.Division Bell
    2.Wish You Were Here
    3.Final Cut

I personally cannot place them in a legitimate order as they would definitely keep an undefined position on the chart after a while.
    What are your takes??

    Division Bell

Plus I really enjoy listening to the live albums, Pulse and Is there Anybody Out There

      1 - DSOTM
      2 - The Wall
3 - The Piper At The Gates Of Dawn

Dark Side is one of my all time favourite pieces of music (I think of it like a Beethoven symphony, one piece of music broken into distinctly different sections), and is chock full of clever use of various effects and genius guitar playing.

The Wall is one of the better albums at telling a story, and contains Comfortably Numb (a particular favourite). It's a fascinating story concentrating on Roger Waters mental state.

The Piper.... Well what can one say? It's weird. The first time I listened to this album, it made no sense at all. Then one day, I listened to it whilst drinking absinthe and it made sense and felt cohesive. After my short time drinking absinthe, I now just stick with 'normal' alcohol so very rarely listen to The Piper any more.

I would have liked to have Wish You Were Here on this list as it is an absolutely terrific album, perhaps technically better than The Wall, but overall the Wall means more to me (as does Piper), so WYWH had to be bumped down.

Ohhhh you know I've never quite got Pink Floyd. Tried and tried but just don't see the amazing appeal. I have a few albums, but it never quit grips me like everyone else.

            What am I missing?

Can't beat a bit of prog rock.

If you like Floyd have you listened to The Decemberists? The Hazards of Love album is superb.

I know you weren't talking to me, but I've recently found them (The Decemberists) and am enjoying them a lot

i also love 'atom heart mother' and 'meddle'..... and live at pompei!!

btw, here's my favourite video of the floyd, 'set the controls for the heart of the sun/ saucerful of secrets' live 1970 at some festival in rotterdam, holland (it's from the 'stamping ground' dvd)! it shows off perfectly rick wright's genius, and an unusually manic nick mason getting very tribal!!

Isn't this the kind of music students in bedsits and old hippies listen to..?

It's making me hungry just thinking about it.
