  • Andy Murray

Not sure how many tennis fans there are on here and I'm sure some are fed up of the coverage but I just wanted to post about Andy Murray, I thought that was a phenomenal performance today and he showed a lot of character to hang on at the end, that last game was unbelievable.

I have found watching him incredibly frustrating over the years, but over the last year or so and today in particular he really came of age and I'm confident he'll go on to win many more Grand Slams now - outstanding! 😊

many a time i've been inside a bar with the tennis match on and my mates complained about how he was a hit-and-miss guy.. so "incredibly frustrating" is putting it lightly

Quoting his Twitter page: "Can't believe what just happened!!"
Yupp.. Neither can we Andy, neither can we.........

A fantastic performance. To get that expectation of a nation off his back speaks volumes. I think he will really kick off from here. Number one ranking must surely be his next target and priority...

Completely agree, that would be a great achievement, and if he can carry on as he has been he could even get a career golden slam, obviously it'll be very difficult but we know he can win the Australian, he's got to the final enough times, then its just the French, which just has the small matter of beating Nadal on clay...

True, but Nadal is becoming increasingly prone to injuries. I think Federer is probably in the twilight of his career now too. The problem for Murray at the French in my opinion is his offence gets neutralised by the surface, and with his back and hip, he finds making the adjustments to his movement difficult. I think in light of his decision to forgo the French to maximise his chances at Wimbledon, he will have some tough decisions to make about his priorities. I would certainly expect him to add the Australian Open at some point - he's been knocking on the door there for quite some time.

I must confess that I am a Murray hater. I despise his boring style of defensive play and dislike his attitude on court. Furthermore he vehemently says he is Scottish and not British which annoys me. HOWEVER apparently he gave his winnings today to a charity, perhaps we can be friends after all!

That's slightly unfair, as far as I know the only thing that he's ever said on the subject is that he would rather anyone win the World Cup but England, and that was a joke after Tim Henman and Des Kelly was teasing him about Scotland not qualifying

Regardless, I see no reason why we should be Britain in sporting events and would rather see an Englishman win!

Gordon Bennett! You're coming across as a right miserable git... Anyone would think you were Scottish...

(Then again, I am British before I am English, and the only time I specifically support 'English' sportsmen is invariably in team sports - in practically all individual sports, with the exception of at the Commonwealth games, players are British, not English... Would I have preferred Henman to have slain the British monkey on the back at Wimbledon - yes, but that's because I enjoyed watching his all-court, serve-volley game, not because he's English).

I can indeed see Murray winning a few more majors along the way, though I fear he shall never win the French. (I do so hope he proves me wrong on that point). Whilst I don't view him as the most exciting player on the planet, I do appreciate his skill, and he has some very deft touches. He's a potent attacker, he just bides his time (a little too much for me to find him exciting to watch...) He may not be the most joyous person on court, but he's out there doing his job, and focusing on doing it to the best of his abilities.

I Agree, it just doesn't feel to me as if he is playing for Britain, and many of his fans just sport the Scottish flag. Would much rather watch Federer or henman play, just for some variety!

Despite the Scotish/British thing which massively annoys me - albeit it seems he never actually said it - that was a terrific performance, outstanding tennis. I watched the semi too (hehehehehe) and some of his shots were amazing. Deserved winner.

Novac though - what a nice bloke!

Well said Deano..and to clarify; Murray has never said he's not British.
I for one put being Scottish first & British second and I really believe most Englishmen put England first & Britain second so why shouldn't he?
By the way, the Welsh have just won the Lions tour...
As for national pride for tennis the British should be ashamed of themselves..
Fred Perry was snubbed by the LTC (Wimbledon)for half a century..f**k**g elitist ***esoles..

I put SoM, Mexico first; my brothers and sisters North of the boarder second; and the Scottish and British tied for third.

                          That's what I think, anywayz.
