  • I phone 5s screen

    Hi guys,

Hoped somebody might be able to help me with a tech related problem. I have just managed to crack the screen on a week-old IPhone 5s. Does anyone know if they can be replaced and (gulp! ???) how much it would likely cost? Ball park figure...

    Thanks in advance. Nick.

They can certainly be replaced, is it just the outer glass or straight through to the lower layers? Price will be higher from Apple but your warranties will be intact.

Hi there VTG. Looks superficial, but it stretches diagonally across the entire screen and there is also some spidering of the glass / lamination in the bottom corner. Apple UK price would be ?216. Quite a bitter pill to swallow!

You would need the digitizer assembly they cost around ?40 about the same again for a decent tech to fit it. What you have to bare in mind is all replacement digitisers are not genuine apple parts they are made by other company's and most are not as good as the original. I would recommend using apple on a brand new phone as they would use an original part and you would keep the warranty.

One of my work colleagues broke her iPhone screen last year and was quoted a similar price, but she ended up going somewhere in Stratford and got it done for a lot cheaper (I seem to remember ?30 being mentioned but may be wrong), to be honest I would probably prefer to pay more and get it done properly by the manufacturer rather some dodgy back street shop, but it is possible to get it done for cheaper

i've known a mate of mine that went to speedy-glass repair to get that fixed. Speedy Glass Repair is basically a company (probably doesn't station in the UK) that fixes windshield glasses just by applying pressure and liquid to a glass. she basically removed the outer glass layer, brought it over to speedy glass, and got it fixed for the half the price of the windshield: $10!!

a new replacement costs around $20 here and you have to do it yourself. labour is ridiculously expensive when it comes with electronics. ridiculously

That's why i have my old, shitty crackberry. 9100 Pearl that's half the size of my palm and has been with me for 3 years. through 2 metre drops, accidental water baths, and even cooking oil splashed on it.

If you look on YouTube you will find explicit videos on how to do it yourself.
