  • Montecristo Open Junior

    Length 42"
    Gague 38
Build No complaints here. Smooth wrapper, well packed, easy punch. My lighter ran out of gas after toasting the foot but it lit of off one match (once I got the bloody things to stay lit in the wind). Burn had a couple of issues probably but see below.
Draq Easy and smooth. Again, no complaints here.

Taste Pre-draw was a little earthy with a promising herbal note. First third was mild and earthy, not much else going on here. Went out after about an inch and half but again relit of a quick wave of a match. Second third, more of the same really but perhaps a little bit stronger. By this point was smoking it pretty slowly so wasn't surprised when it went out with an inch to go just as it started to develop a pleasant pepperiness. I seriously thought about not relightling it as it'd been pretty bland until then but pushed on and the last inch or so had more pepper and was much more enjoyable. Died at half an inch.

I've had some pretty great NCs recently and this was really disappointing. I've enjoyed Montecristos a lot in the past but the two Opens I've had have not been worth the price. Bad choices on my part.

Yeah, I found the Open Junior a bit of a letdown.... Especially since I have enjoyed other Monties so much! Perhaps it would taste better on a sunny golf course with a hip flask of sweet bourbon though?

There is a play better point with drinking alcohol..... And a quick falloff to play awful!

Given how rarely I get to play I can barely hit the ball so there's really nowhere to falloff too.

Indeed, the Open line is quite ininspiring. I'll stick to my Petit Edmundos

I haven't but after trying the Eagle and the Junior I'm not going to rush out after it. Stick a review up and let us know what its like when you're done.

I might be being a bit harsh on these, I have friends who don't smoke and I could see the Open Junior being something they could enjoy. That said, I think they'd probably enjoy the RyJ Tubos more.
