  • Thinking of starting pipe smoking, questions

So I am playing with the idea of getting a pipe.

I smoke cigars once or twice a month (prob less during winter), so I am interested in the very idea of smoking a pipe. I have a few questions for the more seasoned here.

Do you inhale pipe smoke? I never inhale cigar smoke so I would assume pipes are the same?

Is smoking a pipe addictive? For me smoking cigars is not so I would be wary of anything that is likely going to make me addicted.

    Thanks guys

    Tinned tobacco
    packet tobacco

      Pipe smoking is great!

I don't inhale and I don't find it addictive and neither do I find cigars addictive. And I don't think either are in the same class as cigarettes.

My suggestion is to get a cheap corn cob pipe and stay away from overly flavoured tobaccos to begin with.
I would go for a quality straight Virginia and a quality English/Balkan blend.

It's not a simple task smoking a pipe if you have never done it before, but if you stick with it and do some searches around this forum and the internet as a whole you will find some great tips and a few different techniques to try.

Also we will obviously try and answer any questions you have too.

I started with a pipe this year and love it. All the above advice is spot on but I will add that If you like a corn cob then you'll be blown away by a more expensive pipe (start with the cob tho).

I do not inhale when smoking pipes or cigars and whilst I am not particularly addicted to pipe tobacco or cigars, it is quite addictive to want to buy and try different pipe tobaccos and cigars, to want to buy a variety of pipes and other smoking paraphernalia and also just spending time relaxing and enjoying a pipe or cigar can be most addictive especially when in the company of fellow pipemen or cigar smokers.
