Anyone want to explain the significance of October 24th? Poppy drives start happening at around this time. But the actual remembrance day is the eleventh over here.

I don't think there's any significance to the 24th. Just a date to start the campaign this year, 2 weeks before Remembrance Sunday. Remembrance Day is still the 11th, but most wreath laying ceremonies, including the big one in Whitehall, are held the Sunday before.
