Good Afternoon Gents & Ladies.

As my previous thread got a little sideways, this post and thread is for any PC / Laptop software or hardware questions. I can even suggest the best options on new PC's or Laptops and can ever build them for you or ensure you get the best bang for buck.

So fear not, post up any questions, queries, frustrations and or new ideas here.

PS. Any chance this can be stickied please oh wonderful Modulators?

This is a generous offer of IT assistance, but I think it would be better if each issue were discussed on this forum (Computer Discussion/Help) on a separate thread, rather than combining all the issues under what likely will become a massive thread. Separate threads for each issue would make it easier to follow and search.

Just as suggestion, but as for making this a sticky, as the Magical Moderator....I'm Out!http://www.easyfreesmileys.com/smileys/free-scared-smileys-366.gif (http://www.easyfreesmileys.com/skype-emoticons.html)

Yeah, surely this is what the sub forum was created for in the first place?

Great to have a helpful soul on board though.

Without a doubt, senor VDGuy!

I can't tell you how many times the forum geeks have save me from PC hell.http://www.myemoticons.com/images/work-school/computer/computer-smash.gif

Of course, in one recent case, we went through hell together, right señor Mo?http://www.myemoticons.com/images/work-school/computer/techy.gif

Not an apple problem... PCs have this issue all the time but the files are easier to find (unlike the maze of locked doors like IOS has). What the issue on Windows/Googles/Androids/whatever devices is they like to gorge back up files with roundabout data. There's one or two files in a folder used to backup your data and it continuously backs your information up until it takes all or 75% of your disk space. Think of it like a benign cancer cell that grows and can't be stopped - but this one stays benign.

Just like a benign tumour, you have to find it and end it. But it's significantly harder on an IOS device. Hell - I don't even know how to find it on a PC! :biggrin1:

I've been nursing my laptop along for a while and not long ago experience the blue screen of death (I'll add screen shots from tapatalk).
This morning, the same happened - In advance of this I'd obtained a linux mint disk.
So when it happened, I shut down and then tried to boot from disk.
No joy there either......
Any ideas most welcome, as I currently can't do anything with it.
And yes, I have tried turning it off and on again.. :biggrin1:

Most likely bad ram if there is more than one stick installed try taking one out and try again, swap over if it still won't work.

groundhog
02-11-2014, 10:32 AM
That was the conclusion I came to.
Sadly the ram is onboard and not removable.
There is an expansion slot, but afaik adding won't work if the onboard is knackered?

whats the make and model ?

Asus a54c

Yes that model has integrated ram with one slot for expansion, if the on board is bad then your screwed. Keep switching it on and off quickly three times see if it boots to recovery options

Have tried the recovery options, which leads to bsod every time.
That was why I thought I'd try to boot from disk.
Gutted :-(
Although, as they say, every cloud!

Any recommendations for a sub £300 laptop?
I already have a chromebook, which I adore, but it can't do my home neworking / downloading stuff, so sadly I still need a laptop.

Am quite tempted by this:

Or this:

Haha! I agree totally with a IT service award for senor http://smileys.emoticonsonly.com/emoticons/c/computer-3237.gifMo (get into it senor :nerd: serious....and give yourself one while you're at it for past services). I also noted as others that senor Mo had taken over for the so-called "butters bot" which I believe is actually a bb poser in my view if i am honest

Again, I implore you, please start a new thread in this forum for each new issue, noting the issue in the subject line. It will be so much easier to search and follow. Put another way, you wouldn't want all the fine puro reviews to be lumped into one giagastic thread, now would you?

That'd be crazy!!!http://www.sherv.net/cm/emoticons/playful/crazy-tongue-hanging-out-smiley-emoticon.gif (http://www.sherv.net/)
