Well sounds like as from next october smoking in cars with kids in the back will result in a heafty fine.
Not that i smoke or have smoked in my car or other drivers cars, whats next on the list
no smoking cigars or pipes in our homes when children are about
no smoking in our gardens because deppending which way the wind blows it might annoy the neighbours.

Perhaps it will be no cooking Bacon around vegans because it smells too tempting.

Just like driving whilst phoning/texting/Facebooking?
Or smoking in works vehicles (even saw one of those tacky stretch SUV limo things in town the other day, driver proudly hanging his arm out of the window, fag in hand- between drags. Even if it wasn't illegal then that instance would still be highly unprofessional...)
Or driving without a seatbelt?

Unlikely to be properly enforced, but it shouldn't need to be law- it should be common sense. I also can't be the only one who finds smoking whilst driving distracting and dangerous in it's own right.

Oh, and Bacon is the one smell that can "convert" many Vegans. I've known more than one Veggie/Vegan type walk past a cafe and just give in to temptation because of the smell!

Apparently bacon is the meat most likely to tempt veggies to stray. That's probably why bacon crisps are suitable for vegetarians.

My Aunty is a Piscatorian of almost 40 years and Bacon is a sore temptation for her.... Also Rachel was a Vegetarian when I met her, within a year I had her chowing down on Bacon butties. Now she's a full blown meat eater.

Her main stipulation is that the meat is of good quality and ideally the meat is "Happy" meat, so we tend to go to local butchers with local beasts... She works for the NFU so she knows where the responsible farmers are.

TBH when I went self employed I purposely left the huge no smoking sign in my van as I like the irony whilst sat next to it smoking a nice stick or my pipe. My van, only me in it my rules.

It was probably the same with introducing drink driving laws 50 years ago. People still do it, but it is not seen by most of people as acceptable behaviour. I hope this law will do the same. In 20 years most people will see this as act of cruelty to a child.

TBH when I went self employed I purposely left the huge no smoking sign in my van as I like the irony whilst sat next to it smoking a nice stick or my pipe. My van, only me in it my rules.

In my mind this isn't about punishing drivers, it's about protecting the defenseless.

I'd like to live in a world where parents wouldn't smoke in the car whilst there children are in it but they do.

It should be considered that now and if it takes the potential threat of a fine to hammer the message home to the numerous numpties that do smoke in their cars with children present, well so be it IMO. Some children don't get the choice as to whether they inhale their driver's smoke or not do they?

I would not want to smoke and drive, it would be just like smoking a cigarette! Would not be able to enjoy it at all, I cannot even walk and smoke, it just completely ruins the whole experience.

lets face the truth people, the kind of person that would smoke in a car with kids in, is genrally going to be of a certain background and live a certain life style, so if they did get a fine it would be paid at 50p a month deducted from benefits.
