  • Cough, cough ... Ahem

It's been ages since I was here! Hope all are well and a belated Happy New Year!

I've got a cold and a tickly cough. Felt dreadful today so suspect it might even be one cold followed by another - such is life with a 4 year old germ magnet. Unfortunately, as a result of the cough, MLW's ever more accommodating stance on the cigar hobby has hit the buffers. Yesterday, the conversation went a bit like this:

MLW: you've got a nasty cough since you started cigars.
Me: umm, no, I don't think so. I've just caught a cold.
MLW: you were coughing last night and when you got up.
Me: yes, I've got a cold. You were coughing last night too.
    MLW: don't make excuses.
    Me: ok.

I've thought about what I should have said (if I had the balls and if I wasn't hopeful that MLW will be accommodating again as soon as my cough goes):

    1) 'Our 4 year old daughter had us awake for 4 nights in a row coughing. Is now the time to challenge her about a secret cigar hobby?'

    2) 'I've not had a cigar since Christmas and since then I've caught a cold and coughed a bit one night and the following morning. On that basis I should be smoking more cigars, since I didn't cough when I did.'

Not sure either would have helped my cause in the long term so it's probably best I kept quiet.

More seriously, and to be fair to my wife, I've not had a cold with a cough for a long time, so I can understand why she jumped to the conclusion she did. I know smoking cigars is not hazard-free, but hadn't really thought my current cold was any worse than any other (apart from the cough). Even if I didn't smoke cigars, I can't really expect I'll never have a cough ever again.

I also know cigarette smokers are definitely more susceptible to respiratory tract infections, colds, etc., but assumed that was due to inhaling. Like most cigar smokers, I don't inhale, so has anyone found that cigars make them more susceptible to colds, or prolong coughs and colds, even if they don't smoke any for the duration? Hopefully not, but thought I'd ask.

Funny that, I mentioned to MLW that a few guys on the forum had infections that seemed to be dragging on and her response was the same. Fortunately I've been okay so far this winter. I have a Java Mint ready just in case though.

Nowt to do with the cigars undercover seems everyone has got this mine lasted about four weeks, mainly started by kids , So unless they are all behind the bike sheds chuffing away its not smoking related.
Just a nasty virus seems to go away then comes back and floors you again for a few days , I've had blocked sinuses and a nasty echo in my head reminiscent of being underwater and a nasty deep cough for the last two weeks, which is an improvement on the week and a half I spent in bed when it first kicked in

I have had a lingering one that comes and goes. But I haavent been as active outdoors this last 12 months as I usually am so I put it down to that.

I also have two kids in nursery.

My girlfriends mum has had a cold/flu since before Christmas on and off and she's never smoked... Think there's something going round. Not cigar smoking...

I'm on my second lot of antibiotics and they gave me an inhaler as I've been short of breath with this chest infection.

I don't think what's going around has anything to do with smoking, other than it's a waste of a fine puro to smoke with a cold!

That was the evening I had my last smoke...at the works do.
Day after I started coughing and haven't stopped.

I nearly so very nearly had my first tonight, I'm nearly back to normal , but as this thing keeps coming back thought it prudent to make sure and wait a while longer better safe than sorry. But my sticks are calling
