Need help with a printer

Anyone technically minded when it comes to printers

As you maybe aware my other printer packed up so its in the bin
I dug out my old business photography printer to take into the office as I wanted to print some photos off
Bear in mind it's not been used for two years
So I took out all the old in carts x 6 and binned them
And replaced with all new carts
Everything seemed ok apart from it will not print in black
I changed text test document to all different colours and it prints fine but not in black
The printer is an Epson Stylus Photo 1400
Anyone got any ideas as cannot find any help on line
A fine smoke to anyone who solves my problem
Otherwise I'll have to find someone to have a look at it and maybe service it

Epson Stylus Photo's use stand alone printer heads. They are notorious for blocking especially after prolonged non use.

The below is a walk through of how to clean a head..... Epson do not reccomend cleaning heads by hand.... YMMV

Running a print head cleaning cycle is not the same and if it's seriously blocked will just make things worse.

Your other option is to set it to print say 10 pages of black text and see if it gets itself unclogged during the process.

after none use for a while the ink will dry in the heads, what you need is ethanol a few drops in the spikey bit and a drop on the other side, then print out large black squares it will force the ink and ethanol through and clear the blockage.

Same conclusion, sounds like a blockage in the black nozzles. Usually you would run a nozzle check to determine this and then run head cleans. If it doesn't clear, the head would need manually cleaning or replacing.

Definitely not, white spirit is oily.

Use high percentage clear alcohol if anything.

I have run head cleaning four times all other colours are great
Will try printing lots of black stuff see if that will clean
Failing that good vodka
