  • What pipe for a beginner?

Does it actually matter what style of pipe to start out with. I have always been a fan of church wardens but have had someone tell me they aren't good for beginners. I'm not one for buying cheap when I start hobbies so would be of good quality etc.
Cheers for any help in advance
    Harry

Churchwardwns are lovely pipes but can have a twndancy to get hot as the user can draw too hard if not careful as the smoke has further to draw , if your completely new why not try out a corn cob and see how you like it before buying a decent one .

I have tried Pipe smoking a few times in the past and really enjoyed it but not had a pipe of my own. I guessed that might be a problem due to the length but is there a way around it

I think some of the Churchwarden style pipes on the GQ site come with 2 stems, 1 long, the other short.

Maybe start with one of those?

Churchwardens look the biz, but are a different kettle of fish.

The best advice I can give Is to go to a shop. Look at the pipes and feel them, one will just work for you both aesthetically and even more importantly it will fit your hand. Wander around with it a little as you chat. You will know the right one.

I looking into this slightly. You can get corn cobs in a range of sizes and styles and they practically give them away. You could ten corn cobs to try for the price of one decent pipe. Would hate to spend all that money and find I don't really like it

Has anyone ever bought one of these very cheap pipes with stand sets? ?3seems awfully cheap but if they are ok I may get one to see if I like smoking a pipe. I feel pipe smoking would be better suited to my work day.
I will now go back and read this thread and probably get the answer I look for [emoji6]

Where have you seen pipe plus stand for 3 quid?

This is a heap of corn cob pipes which seem to be highly recommended for beginners?

MM Corn Cobs tobacco pipes are grown and made in Missouri and are the world's oldest manufacturer of smoking corn cob pipes.

there is 3 pages worth to get thru there and all pretty cheap

I love the smell of pipe tobacco, but never considered trying any for some reason. Didn't realise it was so cheap (compared to cigars anyway). Think this maybe one for the future.
