  • Hobbit Herf Hut

Haven't been around much due to work (bastards expect me to use a company laptop and there's no public wi-fi) and the demands of being a weekend dad and hubby. A while ago, having looked enviously at all the sheds, dens and caves in operation or under construction, I suggested to my wife that perhaps a summer house or some sort of garden building would be nice. Of course, I was 'shocked' when MLW said I just wanted somewhere to smoke cigars. Who? Me? Well, we've finally put the deposit down on a barbecue hut and I'm one step closer to having a place to go to smoke cigars when it's cold and wet outside:

Inside, it looks a bit like this ... There's a barbecue pit, which can also be used to burn wood to keep warm, so it passes the Wigan 'roaring fire with a cigar' test:

MLW continues to be ever more supportive of the hobby. When I said I wasn't sure if I wanted to have the hut smelling of cigars - I might like the smell, but others don't - she has insisted that it would be fine, that I need somewhere warm and sheltered in the winter, that it's got a chimney and that she expects it to smell of wood fire anyway. Indeed, she proudly told the landscape gardener that we are building it so I can smoke cigars and then showed him my humidors and cigar collection!

So, I will soon have somewhere to host a herf ... if anyone ever finds themselves in South Wales!

I hope you don't get burgled by the gardener! Seriously though I too have cast longing looks at one of those huts, you can find them on Ebay

That's amazing. What a place to host a herf!

Was thinking that myself and wandering how much they're charging for it .

Think you've put most other smoke shacks to shame with that - look fantastic!

Should add it's not exclusively a smoke shack - it'll be a family space as well. It's a bit expensive just for smoking cigars, even if that's my main aim!
