Buying cigars in Cuba with a VISA card...

Can anybody who has bought cigars in Cuba tell me

...IS IT POSSIBLE TO BUY CUBAN CIGARS IN, SAY, LA CASA DEL HABANA IN HAVANA WITH A DEBIT CARD /CREDIT CARD, PLEASE?...

I puchased sticks at the Hotel Nationale in January with my Visa Debit card mate (Nationwide) You get charged extra at the tills anywhere, for the privilege though. Still very favourable. Remember that tubed RyJ I sent you: ten box at 35CUC

I had no problem. There is a surcharge though. I bought at the hotel casa, the same hotel you're in I think (Parque Central).

I am a bit confused about when to put Cuban money on the table, when to put other currencies on the table, and when to use cards.

Would be good to smoke one off with a Cuban experienced before heading out there.

My shack is open most days this Summer if anyone is passing by.

As far as I could work out, it's all very simple these days. You'll need to get CUCs (Convertible Pesos) when you get there, nowhere excepts Dollars officially now, so you're stuck with CUCs and/or credit card - and I'd only use the latter in very official places. Simple really, ignore anything else you read, it'll all be out of date I expect.

just make sure your card is not affiliated to an amercian bank. They won't accept it because the good ol US won't honour the charge and pay them. I made sure i took a couple of diffeent cards fro m different banks to make sure. IIRC the M & S Card works ok. Check out the Cuba Mania website lots of very experienced canadian visitors to cuba.
