  • Cigars with a couple of mates

Took out the last of my very cheap Cubans last night for a brief hook up with some mates, as I and another are in the duldrums. They really like the Jose L Piedra, which is good as they're only ?30 for 25. Unfortunately it means I need to buy more for my 30th to give out lol.

Anyway, a nice gentleman was smoking a English cigar in the corner of the garden (for his privacy I won't mention what it was ) and I offered him one of mine.

Low and behold he has a bunch of humi's, knew his stuff from Partagas to Hoyo de Monterrey, and hopefully will join the forum. Just amazed someone in my own little town was as much into them as me. Hope to see him sign up, would be nice to have another local-cigar smoking buddy.

Especially as my mate Chee never bothers to smoke with me :P

    Quite coincidentally...

Two Saturdays ago, I was taking a short-cut in the car through an estate to get to the Post Office.

I was in a quiet road with no cars. Residential.

As I was driving along, on my right hand side a guy was walking his dog. He had facial hair and was a bit younger than me.

He had an Ozzie hat on in the sun. I have an Ozzie hat, too. Not quite a cowboy hat - but a good hat.

    Curiously...

He was lighting a good-sized cigar. In my slow drive-by, it seemed like a GOOD cigar, somehow. Good label. A phat one. Not some piece of shit.

Maybe that was wishful thinking on my part.

    But the thing is...

I should have stopped and wound down the window!

And now I'm pissed off that I didn't because it is possible there might be a bona fide BOTL living 200m from my house!

I don't come across many cigar smokers in my small seaside town.

    This isn't High Street, Kensington.

I know it might have looked like a gay pick-up, but I should have stopped!

I had a cigar on the go - and I was in my Stetson.

If I see him again, I WILL pounce!

So WELL DONE, Deano, for communing with your fellow cigar man.

    PS He had facial hair.
    Must seem quite random.
I have bollock chops fuzz, also.

        Yeah. Om. lol

I did wonder if it was yet another psychotic trip, but it wasn't.

In a way it was a bit like that section in Terminator 2 where the tubby nut hospital warden guy at the drinks machine turns round to see his double which then swords him up.

I like the way the double morphs up out of the lino. It was dead impressive when it came out. I love that film.

My double had skinny legs and I don't.

I will ALWAYS speak to another cigar smoker whenever possible, O Lord.

With the big hairy bear leather stogie bikers, I'll just wave, tho.

I feel a sense of duty to break the ice with cigar smokers.
Cigars are a passion, after all.
If I'm not smoking one and my nostrils sniff quality smoke nearby, I start to get aroused anyway.
I think a REAL cigar smoker you stumble across is likely to want to talk.
I'm just thinking of the individual and collective herfs I've had with a few of us off here now.
              Bloody good fun.
Good chat on and off the topic of cigars.
              And never conducted in silence!

I honestly think talking to a cigar smoker with a decent stick on the go - when you are smoking, too - is a must.

I haven't met a woman in the flesh smoking a great cigar randomly when out and about, but I'd do just the same.

Once there was a woman smoking a pipe on a cross-Channel ferry. She had a huge audience - but scared the shit out of me.

I've said it before, nurse, but I do like to "play up" cigar smoking when out sometimes to get people to talk to me. Last time was at a dog show on Sunday, and it worked.

My confidence is a pleasure for me compared to the overwhelming guilt I felt a few years ago at smoking in public at all.

I get peace of mind in being a completely relaxed cigar smoker these days. I've said all this before, but it's helped in part by connecting about cigars with you lot on this forum.

Yeh I'm glad I did it, he was incredibly nice, I was a bit hesitant. Shame he hasn't signed up yet, though he had seen the forum before which is promising.

The whole 'playing up' the cigar thing is a top thing, Robusto. It's in a sense, dramatic, fun. Last summer, I was out on the European continent for a few weeks, and absolutely everyone I was working with were puffing on the leaves of Phillip Morris and other such purveyors. Besides a girl pulling on a clove cigarette - which I have no inclination to partake of - I was the only one lighting a cigar in our little group.

But it does definitely get people talking. A couple of minutes walk away from the block I was staying in was the local smoke shop, and it was enlightening to talk to the shop owner, and see where Europe differs when it comes to trends and popularity of different sticks, compared to the UK.

But one thing - I have *never* seen a pipesmoking lady! And indeed I too would be a bit scared were I to make one's acquaintance!

                  LOL

Playing up the stick is a fine pastime.
