Hi there - I'm Deltawhisky, a new member of the UK Cigar Forums. I'm a full time student reading International Relations and Politics. I have a real interest in reading, music, going to the theatre and museums, and generally meeting with my friends for a good coffee. Simple really! I also love the gym -- a little ironic, perhaps, considering my penchant for a good cigar.
Before writing this post, I read Robusto's profile, and his notes about 'coming out' about his cigar interest. I feel very much the same way about my love for a good stick. There is, I am quite sure, a lot of ill feeling towards smoking - especially when it comes to more exclusive smoking such as Havanas etc. Not between aficionados, but I mean a general sentiment in British society, at least. I have kept my interest in cigars as low as possible, but I treat this forum as my 'coming out'.
A few years ago, a friend and I decided to take a trip to the local tobacconist, and both treat ourselves to something. We were not undergraduates then, and the looks upon the faces of the tobacconists were a) of actual disapproval and b) of amusement. The friend in question had introduced me to The Chap magazine, which seems to have won a famous status in the UK for its satire, and its trip back to the halcyon days of music, clothing and culture. It was from this magazine that we learned about cigars, cigarillos, and even nasal snuff!
However, everyone drifts into preference, and the only sort of leaf that really does something for me is a good stogie. I am only really getting into the better sticks nowadays - it is a steep learning curve. I had a lovely Quintero tubos a few weeks ago, and was pleased with the even burn and the depth of flavour. Another favourite is the Montecristo Number 4. I don't smoke every day, but when I am with a friend, and a good coffee, I love the smell and flavour of a nice cigar.
And dare I say, there is always a place for a Cuban cigarillo as well!
