  • Has Anyone Tried

any of the cigar brands made by Pete Johnson (USA), the best known of which is probably Tatuaje. Well it's not actually made by Pete, he owns the brands and Don Pepin Garcia makes the cigars.

Anyway, maybe some of our forum members from across the pond could give us a review or tell us if they've smoked any.

Going by the Cigar Aficionado forum members take on his cigars, they seem to be the dogs, most rating them as highly as Opus X, Ashton VSG or the top Padrons although at a much cheaper price.

Would really like to try a couple and would be interested to know if anyone's tried any ESPECIALLY his own private label the Tatuaje Black which seems practically impossible to get your hands on.

I'm a fan of Don Pepin Garcia so I'm thinking I would probably like these. Hope to score some when in the US later this year.

    Funny You Should Ask

Only just yesterday (Thursday, 9th July) did I place an order for a tenner of the Tatuaje Gran Cojonu (literally: Big Bollocks). I've been debating over trying out the Tatuaje after having read so many good reviews about them. Finally gave in when I found a decent deal on these hefty 6 1/2 x 60, uncircumsized (the foot is untrimmed), bandless beasties. Will let them rest in the humi for a while after they arrive and let you know after I've fired one up.

I am a big fan of Pete Johnson and his cigars. I have tried the following from his offerings:

Tatuaje Cabinet (Brown Label) - Most Sizes Including Cojonu '03 and '06
Tatuaje Havana VI (Red Label) - Most Sizes Including the "East" and "West"
      Tatuaje Series P (White Label) - P2 and P1
      La Riqueza All Sizes
El Triunfador - There is only one size which is a Lancero
Cabaiguan - Can't remember the sizes I have tried
Tatuaje Black - Only tried the Corona Gorda. There is also a Robusto that he hands out at events and he is about to release a Torpedo in a Black Tubo
Ambos Mundos - Both blends and both sizes

I have yet to have a cigar from him that I didn't like. I don't think you can go wrong with any of the above. The Series P are a mixed filler and are the same blend as the Havana VI.

The Ambos Mundos is his recent shot at a budget stick and it's pretty good.

The Tatuaje Black is a very creamy cigar. I like them alot and they are fairly strong. If you can find one. It is worth it. You might have more luck when the Torpedo is released which I'm told won't be too long

Thanks for the reply's guy's, Rok, will definately be interested in hearing your review of the few you've ordered.

Matt just out of interest, were you able to get all of those Pete Johnson cigars over here or did you order from an American online cigars retailer? Definately want to get hold of a couple of these, the Tat black even more so after reading your comments Matt!

From a retailer in the US. I don't think any of Pete's sticks are over here yet.

He is set to release an El Triunfador #4 that is a Euro exclusive at first. I don't have a date, but I think it will be soonish. Although, I don't want to comprehend the price tag.

The Euro exclusive will be a completely different blend to the El Triunfador Lancero that was released in Oct 08. He just made the Lancero so he could secure rights to the El Triunfador name. He used the same blend as th Cabaiguan Maduro for the ET Lancero. I have no idea what the blend is for the ET #4.

These pics are taken from his FB page

1st Pic - The Tubos for the Tatuaje Black Torp and a Havana VI Torp. Anyone guess which tubos these tubos were made to immitate?

2nd Pic From Left to Right - Tatuaje T110 made exclusively for a retailer in Hawaii, only 200 boxes produced. Tatuaje Black Torpedo, limited release, but no idea as to quantity. El Triunfador #4, Euro exclusive
