  • Removing the band

After frequent struggles over many years, I've realised only this week that if I can't remove a cigar band, I can easily pull it over the lit end after knocking off any ash.

    It always works for me.

    Thoughts?...

LOL!! Never actually tried it that way. I usually make a bloody mess of it trying to get it off via the head

once you got an end between your nails it doesnt matter if it tears only a layer off revealing white paper, persevere and keep pulling and eventually the whole thing will come off, after sweat, blood and tears
and then you can lick the band and stick it on your forehead and walk down bond street feeling oh so good about yourself

In my honest, humble opinion I leave it on till about 1" from the band then the warmth of the cigar makes it easier to remove. I feel that if I take it off before smokin the cigar taste differant. All in my head!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He's Nuts

I gotta agree with senor GAS on this one. Waiting until the burn is closing in on the band tends to heat up the "glue" used to seal the band, making it easier to lightly twist back and forth until it breaks free. Then I concentrate on slowing twisting the band off without snagging a piece of the wrapper. If this happens, gently tuck the wrapper under the band and continue twisting off. Twisting in the same direction as the wrapper tends to help.

I've have successfully removed a number of band in my time and I must admit, I'm pretty good at it. Everynow and then, however, a band is just too tight to come off in tact. When this happens, I will either gently pull the band apart, which works most of the time, or just tear the bad boy off.

All my enjoyment comes from smoking the cigar, so if the band wants to play hard ball, I just tear the bloody thing off

I know I should ascertain the looseness of the band before lighting my cigar, but I tend to forget.

I do love cigars where the band is ultra-loose at the start.

I find most sticks have a band that isn't loose, and I find I'm stuck with the twat's dilemma of BURN APPROACHING! very often.

Of course, I try taking the band off by the foot, but it usually gets caught up in the leaf which can knacker the draw if you create a scar.

So many of the bands don't just peel apart and come off in your fingers.

So the slick Stockman-In-Training act can collapse a bit. Never good with the ladies.

I know this is so bloody trivial but I feel so good to have worked out DUH! that you can slip the band over the heated end.

                So far no infernos.

I tend to peel it myself, and if that doesn't work just rip the thing. I don't collect them so I see no point. It's unusual for me to try and slide it (unless it is very loose) as I've caused wrapper damage doing that in the past.

I keep all my bands in a very big jar.
                      And all my tubes.
Sometimes I go to my shack and lay them out on my leather sofa and just stare at them.
I think Paul Stogiedog does the same thing, too!

I've got a novice question here, folks, might sound odd for the professionals - is it strictly necessary to take the band off? I have heard they are quite collectible. But is it convention or is it required? Cheers.

I leave the band on for as long as possible. It makes me feel great, that constant reminder that I'm smoking a quality cuban cigar. Can be a conversation peice too. Normally someone trying to blag a cigar. !
