    Hey Guys,

I have been tinkering with pipes for a while, off and on kind of but I can never get a nice enjoyable smoke I have tried a few over the counter tobaccos and only really like one but I seem to spend more time lighting than smoking, or when I do get it to burn it doesn't give me much smoke and instead I seem to draw a nasty old flavour...

I have tried different packing methods and a very odd time I will get it to light or a while, but each time I seem to got through a heap of matches and end up with the pipe red hot and tasting bad.

    Any pointers?

    hiya

just stick with it mate, I am also new to pipes and only occasionally get a perfect smoke at the moment, the packing and tamping down after first light are the most important to do I have been finding out, after that you may only get 1 or 2 relights.
the heat and sourness is from drawing too fast to keep it lit.

I hated over the counter tobaccos and im not a lover of pure tobacco pipe blends right at this time.. but that may change as the years go on, so I have been finding different aros that I like the flavour of, and most vanilla blends are ones im going for at the moment.

stick with practicing filling etc and have a good look on utube there's some great info out there

If you pack the tobacco too tight steve you'll have a job keeping the tobacco alight
also if you pack it on the loose side, keep practising till you get the hang of it all been there.
