  • Moidoid

Well I've been lurking for a while so I had better introduce myself I suppose. My real name is not Moidoid, that would be silly, no, my name is Tim. I called myself Moidoid because long, long ago when the interweb was young I needed a name that no other bugger had and this has served me well. It is derived from the Russian Tiomoid, which is Tim. So there you are then.

I am 42 years of age and I live in a village in deepest Kent. I work with people who have mental illnesses and have done so for 15 years now and I have worked mainly in Canterbury, Thanet and Ashford. I would much rather be at home though, assisting my two little monkeys in a leisurely fashion while I contemplate the hours when they are safely tucked up and the gates of the humidor are opened. Ahhhh!

I have been a tobacco person for a long time - Old Holborn as a student in Huddersfield and Kent and imported Old Holborn when I worked in Texas for a while. Whilst in Texas I learned the art of dippin' - sucking tobacco and spitting - but I am sure that Harriet Harman would not approve if we started doing that here, so it probably won't catch on.

I started smoking cigars, other than the Hamlet I pinched off my Dad once, at my wedding 10 years ago. We had a truly wonderful day and my memories of the evening are just spending good time with my friends and family in the Kentish summer with a big, fat cigar in hand throughout.

I had given up the fags by this point and bought a box of obscure Dutch cigars on the way back from France one year - coronas I think. Over the next few years I worked my way through them and, when a friend went to Cuba and asked me if I wanted some cigars I said I would give them a go.
Unfortuately all I got were a few lousy Monte 4's, (boring, boring, boring) but they were enough to get me going. Over the last four years I have expanded the collection and been though a number of Humidors, each bigger than the last. As I get more experience of the different brands I am getting to a few absolutely reliable ones, but I am always willing to sample new ones!

I reckon I have about 200+ Cubans now, 125 ageing and the rest for smoking. I have thoroughly enjoyed the journey of discovery - for every wonderful cigar there are 2 dogrockets I reckon - includes sharing the enthusiasm with other BOTL.

    look forward to meeting y'all

        Welcome aboard Tiomoid!

Plenty of likeminded folk around here - almost all of which have found their humi to be of inadequate capacity on at least one occassion...

Hello and Welcome Tim, the ranks of the Kent stogiemen swell.........
I see you stand like greyhounds in the slips,
Straining upon the start. The game's afoot:
Follow your spirit, and upon this charge
Cry 'God for Harry, England, and Saint George!'

                The Dawg.
