Ive always learnt to smoke a cigar while keeping the end bone dry. Ive pretty much masterd it, my cigars ends are never wet and are always astonishingly bone dry, as if no one has been smoking it. Ive seen a few pictures and mates with wet cigar ends, surely that would effect draw?

Havent seen this discussed yet, do you keep your cigar dry, or do you go a bit crazy ?

I like to start off dry, but as the love grows between us, things do get a bit damp

I never shove a cigar in very far so I tend to stay dry.

HOWEVER, I am really getting off on a prolonged pre-draw with cigars from my sex-ripe humi. I tend to revolve them slowly in my mouth - but for quite a long time - and draw deeply on them, unlit, before torching up.

The JL2 has an incredibly sweet pre-draw, which I love to hang about with.

So I guess with the pre-draw I make the end a bit damp these days. Just a little.

I draw the cigar on both end to add a little dampness to the wrapper. Never effects the draw or taste. If anything it inhances the stoogie. I've been doing this since I was a kid hanging with my Dad who enjoyed a good cigar about 2 to 4 times a day.
So if this is the way he did it ,so I too will continue in his memory. Cheers Dad

I tend to keep them dry if for no other reason than I don't like the sensation of as wet cigar between my lips. I think it just looks bad also. I never really thought about it effecting the draw so much, but it is a good point. I would imagine as the leaves get wet they will begin to expand slightly filling in the gaps between them, making the draw a little more pressured.

For the amount of time it takes to finish the average cigar, lets say an hour, I am guessing that the effect would be minimal during this period of time. Unless it is literally dripping with spit.

Similar to Robusto, One of the cigars I have in the humi, really can't recall which one, has a sweetness to the wrapper that I like to taste before lighting and will happily hold it in my mouth for a time until lighting.

I'm with you misterbulgarin I don't like wet ends that much. I am gobby though so they get a bit wet. My disgusting trick (look away those of a sensitive disposition now) is to place a tissue to hand and every now and then dab the head of the cigar on it and dry it a bit. Works for me.

I often smoke a cigar when out fishing or on the golf course. This tends to lead to a soggier cigar than normal as the cigar gets stuck in my gob for longer but it has never spoiled the experience (the weather, golf or lack of fish take care of that).

How do you go about keeping the head bone dry? Doesnt your accompanying drink cause problems?

If im drinking water I dont let the bottle touch my lips, of if im having wine/cognac/etc, i find it doesnt wet my lips much anyways, if I get a very wet sip then i'd just puckers my lips a few times or just wipe if i was that worried.

Sometimes I do, sometimes I don't; I don't really try either way. If it does get a little moist I do like that as it leaves a hint of the flavour of the wrapper on your lips, which adds to the overall experience IMO.
