  • Thinkin of gettin the 7 drawer humi off humidoro...

I not even had cigar flu for a month yet and im ready to get the 7 drawer humi, filled my 25 humi and just thought fuck it im gonna just invest in a bigger humi so I can just collect sticks without worrying, and to be fair, 150 euros is a great price when you think of it.

    Question though:

With my lil 25 humi im used to just topping the humidifier up with distilled water everynow and then to keep humidity skeen. How the hell do you go about carin for 7 drawers lol

big humidifier based on acrylic polymers (self regulation)

Not too sure on what this is without doing some googling?

    Misterbulgarian,

I had this very humidor delivered this week from Humidoro. I am very pleased with it.

I have not decided yet on how to manage humidity in it long term; I suspect that I will order a Heartfelt bead based humidifier, but all in good time. The humidifier supplied will do for a few months.

Seriously, as Deano kindly pointed out to me if you email Adrian at Humidoro and mention that you are a forum member you may be able to get a very good price.

My only problem is that the cigars I have in this new humidor, transferred from my smaller older humidor, look a bit sparse. I am going to have to spend some serious money to fill it up!

    Paul.

we're gonna need a bigger humi...

I bought one a few years ago (think I paid ?70) and its still going strong and keeps my singles in order and easily accessible. My cigar stockpile quickly out grew the cabinet and the same will probably happen to you when you want to start keeping hold of stuff to age/rest and buying boxes to keep (ie. not split/trase).

The pic below shows my humi purchasing cycle in the first couple of years this hobby, probably the same for many members. You'll always need a bigger humi... I have a converted double door cabinet now, lined with spanish cedar I bought online from an exotic wood merchant.

As for humidifying the 7 door cabinet. I used two Credo Onyx, one low down and the other second from top drawer, with a front mounted Caliber III. Takes up some space but easy to remove when humidity levels wobble. Distilled water every few weeks and a slurp of cgars own humi brew every now and then. The Onyx arent cheap but then again either were the cigars in the first place, 2 onyx might set you back as much as the humi cabinet so there might be a cheaper option.

Get the biggest you can afford to buy as you seem to have caught the bug hard. Whatever capacity you have, you will always want more.

It's like the water absorbent crystals you can buy to mix with soil for plants. It swells up like jelly to absorb all the water. I've read differing accounts of whether it's pure water or PG mix that you use on it for cigars. I've not experimented with it yet.

You don't happen to remember where you bought it from do you? Did you convert the cabinet yourself?

Exotic Hardwoods in Tonbridge, Kent (http://www.exotichardwoods.co.uk/Woo..._Box_Cedar.asp). They are first class over the phone, will help you work out how much you need and cut the thickness required, plank it and send it. I bought a pine cabinet from IKEA and lined it. Was concerned about how good a seal it would have but 2 years on its never been above 72% or below 65%, despite our crazy climate.

I lived in Tonbridge for several years as a child. Small world...
I much appreciate the information, thank you.

I have a cabinet very similar to that one and it comes with 7 small humidifiers - plenty, and it's the same to look after as your other small humi, in fact once you have loaded the cedar - it's much more consistent, I have a small round Hydroset II adjustable hydrometer (one of the best) in each drawer and it seems to always be 69 to 71 PH all the time.

Nah you don't need one in each drawer, but I'd suggest two at least, one near the bottom, one at the top. Though most people would be happy with one in the middle!

The Caliber III are the ones I use, but this one looks pretty much exactly the same, just 'badged up' differently...

One in each drawer is not necessary - now that it has been done and proved consistent, I managed to get them from a US store at a discount, so wanted to see how the readings faired top to bottom, and this would also enable me to rotate the drawers!

I could have moved the digi up one drawer at a time and recorded the readings at each level, but chose the lazy way.

I'm going to order a couple more humi's soon so knew I would be able to use them in these, also it enabled me to calibrate the door one to the average of the seven drawers.

One thing to bear in mind - if you have the humi packed to the top in each drawer, the vent holes in the base of each drawer are covered, there for free circulation is impeded a little, if you leave a bit of room around your cigars one in the top and bottom should be enough.

sorry, I should have explained the thinking more fully.....

Same here, have a few Caliber III and they havent let me down yet. Caliber is more slimline than the hygro in the link and attaches nicely to the front of the drawers in the 7 drawer cabinet.
