  • Spanish Cedar

Just considering undertaking a little project, which might be an alternative to buying a humidor, and was wondering if anyone has any idea where I can buy cedar from? It is not, unsurprisingly, a staple at B&Q and I can't find any UK-based online sellers.

Nice. Just what I wanted too. Might do something of my own soon - moving to a new home at some point.

I found some from a lumber merchant on ebay in the US, they had a big block of it and were willing to cut it to size for you. Might be worth a try.

Little bit of useless trivia for you (which I have added the the Wiki)...

Spanish Cedar is neither Spanish, nor a cedar. It is in fact a mahogany from Latin America called Cedrela odorata.

I'm thinking of lining a wine-cooler that I've spotted for a reasonable price. I've decided it is probably a better bet than buying a normal humidor.

Just remember guys not to use any glue on the cedar, use friction instead and have tight fittings to keep it all together. I understand glue can have quite a flavour transfer in a humidor.

The main chap at exotic hard woods is on holiday at the moment, so I'll give them a ring after bank holiday weekend. Meanwhile, it might be a little look on eBay...
