  • It's a rum old thing darling...

A thread to discuss all things rum related.

Havana Club Anejo Especial. Bought last weekend at a Booths supermarket. I love those supermarkets, just a shame that they are only in the NE...

It was on offer at about ?13.50 - a cracking price.

We all know how magnificent the 7 yo HC is, but this Anejo Especial offering by the Cubans seems to be a top drawer, value rum. It's my first bottle of it, and it works magnificently with Coca-Cola... I've yet to give it a run out on the rocks though.

All in good time, all in good time.

A rum I quite like is Morgan's Spiced Rum. Used to be a very popular drink with coke up in Scotland about 10 years ago then kind of died away for years. Came across a bottle of it a year ago or so in the local supermarket so bought one.

Pretty sure most of you will have had it before but if not, try one if you see it in a bar one day, surprisingly good for a mass produced spirit and very smooth with or without a mixer.

Not sure if we've been here before, but...

Goslings Black Seal Rum is a mighty fine drop (Bermuda), and at only ?15.99 from (most) local Sainsburys it's well worth checking out...!?!

The Beverage Tasting Institute awarded this drink a Platinum medal and it was given 96 out of 100... Get some in...!?!

                Cheers, HabanoSy

Another Rum i like is, Flor De Cana Gold Rum from Nicaragua. It's zesty, sweet, and a buttery finish. A 1.75 LTR bottle goes for $19.99 in the states.

There is... though I do try to avoid it if possible...

I'm fairly sure that one of Sainsburys, Tesco or Waitrose (if not all) stock it too. Just that I do like Booths, and it was a very good price.

Has anyone tried Sailor Jerry rum with a smoke, its pretty strong in flavour, i'd guess it would do well with a powerful stick?

I keep seeing it behind bars, and keep thinking, 'Should I....'

Unfortunately, I always seem to have just found a wonderful real ale when I spot it, and want to take advantage, lest I never see it on a pump clip again. I really must force myself to give Sailor Jerry a go at some point, I've read some good things about it.
