  • Bolivar Tubos No.3

Late last night, as I was getting ready for bed, the fact suddenly rushed upon me that I had not enjoyed a decent stick in quite a while. In fact, my recent snappiness was probably attributable to the grievously low nicotine levels in my bloodstream.

Immediately this morning I took to the town, armed only with a cutter, a box of matches and a Bolivar Tubos No.3 that had been intended for a recent birthday celebration, but which came home unsmoked, sadly.

Ignition was flawless. It took a quick initial blaze with the matches, and then a smooth second light, and did not go out once. The first puffs were pretty robust for such a small stick, and I felt the kick of Lady Nicotiana within the first couple of pulls.

Construction was fine. No peeling, no dramatic inconsistencies, no roughness to the ash. In fact, the ash clinged throughout.

The flavour was definitely 'there'. I had read, last night, on the good old Greens of Leeds site, that Bolivar is not for the beginner, and that it leaned towards the heavier flavours. The No.3 had quite a full bodied taste, but was in no way as raw as the Quintero tubos of similar size.

Towards the end, the stick got a bit woody, and throughout the blaze, it had a relatively 'deep' aroma.

Overall, 8 / 10. I am keen on trying some of the larger sticks as soon as I come out of cigar exile towards the start of next month.

    Nice review Mr. DW!

Having read the same comment you uote about Bolivars not being for beginners I have steered close from these till now, but after reading your thoughts I'll definitely try one if I have a chance.

Had a couple a long while ago, one of the best, cheaper tubed cigars if I remember.....

Nice review mate ....never tried one but I think they're readily available in most participating off-licences...sounds like they're worth a punt if I'm away somewhere with no smokes....

Ah yes, they are good for the price, and if you are a bit short of time, they're better than some of the other short tubes I've tried. Cheers everyone.
