  • Cigars in walk-on luggage at airports

Hello chaps. I'm off to Berlin diese wochenende and I'm not planning on checking in a case, just hand-luggage. Will I be okay with my lighter and tubos in my hand-luggage or should I check a bag into the hold? I'm also planning on bringing back a few of the German-only travel humidors ie Partagas, H.Upmann & HdM...will I be okay bringing stuff back in hand-luggage?

I am off to Berlin also in the not too distant future, you have somewhere you suggest for picking up smokes and related items?

You will definitely need to have your lighter stashed away some place safe, as when I went to Barca a few months back mine got taken... not to sure on the Tubos...?

With regards to brining cigars back you should be fine, I purchased three boxes, two of which were Esp RE's and got them back no problems...

I took a bunch of Tubos in my hand luggage on a trip to LA and had no problems, even from customs! I did get searched and I said they were dominicans even though they clearly were cubans from the many markings!

However I have had a lighter and a cutter (both cheapo's) confiscated on a trip to London City where they offered to mail it back for a tenner. I just left it there. I'm sure they take all the stuff home with them and stick it on ebay.

I should mention that I've taken a lighter and cutter on many other flights without it being a problem. If there worth a bit then I would just leave them at home to be on the safe side.

I always forget to take my knives out of my rucksack before boarding flights. Four times now (the maritime version for sailing is the best, it has a massive blade... but I digress).

Three times I have posted a knife back without any problems, all in the UK, all at a reasonable price, all with Royal Mail. Once I posted it back from Spain. Some bastard nicked it! Which just wrapped up my trip quite nicely, having met what must have been every rude and obnoxious person in the country within three days.

Again, slightly irrelevent to the point in hand... Not like me at all...

Cigars should be fine - the only thing I worry about on long flights is the very low humidity... but on a short hop from Berlin that shouldn't be an issue. The travel humis will be fine. Everything else will be a bit hit and miss getting through. Could you just buy a cheap lighter/cutter when in Berlin?

                      Lose

If you are going through Glasgow then you will probably lose the lighter, although the tubos should be OK Stevieboy.

Never had any problems with tubos and lighter. I just put them in my jacket pocket and put the jacket through the x-ray. sometimes they're curious about the tubos but I've never had my lighter taken. Wouldn't risk a cutter though. Pick up a cheap one at http://www.herzog-am-hafen.de/shipping.php
when you get there. Good cigar shop, by the way....

I'm off to Madrid next week and dont want my Dupont Xtend taken off me so bought a pack of 3 cheap butane torch lighters off ebay for ?2! if they get taken its no big deal and I punch my sticks anyway so no need for a cutter.
