Right lads! I know a few of you have recently been to Madrid and as I'm off there next week I want to know the best shops to go to as my cigar-excursions might be limited.....(i'm there with Mrs B you see )

    So, where best to go?

Panto....where did you track down the Monte 4 travel humi? I quite fancy one

never been to madrid Steevie but when in spain last month the monte travel humis were as common as muck...A bit unapreciated by the spanish masses but adored over here...it was my first purchase as soon as I touched down.
Lover of fine Cubans since 2006

ok the only shop I saw over there that had any of the Monte humis left was
on the corner (almost) of calle de la Santisima Trinidad and Calle Viriato, you cant miss it just look for the Tabac sign in red and yellow. Other than that they are dotted about all over the place just some do cubans some dont.

          enjoy your trip mate

Make sure you try this place.
                Estanco Cardenal Cisneros.
The owner Jesus Llano seems like an interesting guy.
I've always heard it's one of the better estancos in Madrid.

It's near the Bilbao Metro stop. I sent a friend there in May to get me some Ramon Allones Grandes.

Here's an interesting blog from Nino, looks like a nice place

Here's another report from Nino of Madrid in 2006, scroll right down for a description of the Cisneros shop in english and a list of his recommended cigar shops in Madrid

That's me back with a fine wee haul

Quite a lot of nice cigar shops with a fair amount of stock

Loads of Vegas Robaino and Ramon Allones REs left...almost every shop had them. I could only find the Monte #4 travel humi in one wee side-street shop but the owner had split the box....they weren't in great condition anyway.

The following three shops are all excellent especially #1 which has a huge walk-in humi and some of the most amazing humidors I've ever seen. The owner (Jesus) is a very nice chap who was only too happy to have us there even showing off all his fanciest of smokes..

                            1. Calle de Cardenal Cissneros, 17. 28010
                            2. Calle de Magallenes, 16. 28015
                            3. Calle de Barquillo, 22. 28004

Prices are a fair bit cheaper than here but not in the same league as HK or Switzerland

There weren't all that many ELs around, even 2008 stock but I did see LOADS of boxes of the Monte 'D' from 2005...almost every shop had them. I was very tempted but had already bought most of this lot LOL

Don't hold out until you get to the airport on the way back as the stock is MORE EXPENSIVE than in Madrid!?!?!?! Bizarre but true. There's a smallish humidor section when you get through security but a big walk-in one when you then go through passport control. Same overpriced stock with most of the cardboard outers ripped to bit and a lot of old sun-faded stock. I saw H. Upmann Lonsdales from 2000 where the colour on the box were completely faded...best to avoid these cigars to be honest

The WORST place was in El Corte Ingles where we received hellish service. I asked to go into the walk-in humi and the girl glared at us, finished stocking up the 30 cartons of cigarettes she was holding then allowed us in where a snotty b**tard barely even acknowleged us...until we walked out then he was trying to kiss arse!!. Avoid at all costs

NOTE: If paying by Visa etc., have some ID at the ready as one place wouldn't take my card as I didn't have my passport with me. Some places would acccept the card but only after pointing out that the card is a Chip&Pin type....
