  • Back from Spain

    Hi all,

Just back from a trip to Spain, great weather and great food. Also a good opportunity to have many peaceful cigars in the sun reading a good book.

I tried to have as many 1st cigars as I could but also mixed in a few of my more favourite sticks:

    JP Cazadores
    RASS 1st
    SD4 x 3
    Trinidad Fundadores 1st
    H Upmann Monarcas 1st
    Epicure No2 x 2
    Monte Petite Edmundo 1st
    San Cristobal La Fuerza 1st
    Dominican Selection Robusto x 3 1st
    J Cortez tube 1st
    Partagas SD3 EL 2006 x 2 1st

    A decent selection I thought.

Of them all I enjoyed the SD3 and the Trinidad the most. The Monte was the one I liekd the least. I woudl go so far as to say I really did not like it at all and never finished it, something I rarely do.

I brought back a few sticks too, will post pictures of them once I get sorted out.

Some interesting smokes there. Am currently smoking a HdM EE and fancy some tubos ones!

I've got the selection Robustos and Pyramids too, love the selection boxes.

Well in Spain they have shops called Tabaccos which are the only places you will find the variety of cigars and any other tobacco products you are looking for. They are state run I understand so all prices are the same from shop to shop. Some are much better than others and have walk in humidors while others may only have a medium cabinet in them.

Depending on where you are staying you will be lucky or not. For example where I was there are 4 or 5 Tobaccos in the local area but only one has a walk in humidor.

Best thing to do is find the nearest one and ask inside for the best one for cigars. Be aware though that just because you are in a big town or city, it does not mean they will have a big humidor or selection.

Most of them have a good selection of sticks, heavy on Monte and Cohiba and Vega Fina brands as they are the best sellers in Spain I am told. They do stock other big brands along with a lot of lesser NC's. Don't be afraid to take your time and look about in the closed boxes as you can find some great sticks hidden away out of sight.

Thank?s mate, i?m going to do a trip by car and i think i will go to Barcelona, i have been at the north of Spain in the Asturias region, with is one of the places were you can the best gastronomy. I?ve also been in some place at the south of Spain , but only passing trough.

A friend bought me some excellent pipe tobaccos at a third of the price practiced in Portugal (because of high taxes).

Great looking selection there Paulie. I like the look of the Party SD3s. Out of curiosity, what price are they at , as a benchmark, if you don't mind me asking?

Just got back from Mallorca. Pipe tobacco, cigarettes and cheaper cigars like King Edward Imperials are just under half the price than the UK.
HdM Epicure No 2s were 9 euro's each
                        Partagas D4 were 9.5 euro's each.
Cohiba's were the most expensive, not much cheaper than the UK.

Nice haul Paulie! Would love to know a little more about the Trinadad Fundadore, that's a Lancero cigar isn't it?

That and the Cohiba are definately on my "Want To Try List".

Nuno Sa - if your heading to Barcelona have a look at this old thread were I posted some information after visiting in March - it may be off some help to you:
