  • Cigar cases, does price matter?

    Howdo,

I'm going to a wedding in a few weeks and would like to take a couple of cigars with me.

Simple question really, when it comes to cigar cases does a cheap EMS one work just as well as a pricey one?

I've been looking at a few antique ones on fleabay too.

(I know I could use a couple of tubes, but it doesn't have the same alure as producing a leather case from inside ones suit jacket!)

    I await your counsel

I'm bidding on two cases (EMS) on Fleabay at the moment. They look ok when new and will do a year or two, but they lose shape quite easy. As long as you regard the cheap ones as disposable, you shouldn't go wrong.

There's some rather nice antique ones out there (on ebay) too. Specially that crocodile skin one.

PS. I'm off to the post office in a bit!

I was given a leather one as a gift. Cedar lined and very nice looking. It'll hold 3 PSD4's or longer cigars of the same ring gauge.

I always think it's worth getting a good quality one and using it for many years.

I have a leather one too. I tend not to use it now - I find the leather smell definitely gets into the sticks. imo I'd avoid them from now on, but maybe mine was just a bit too cheap.

Depends on the tubes, I guess. Some are pretty impressive when removed from your jacket, like the Cohiba Siglo VI or the Habanos travel pack tubes (which have a built-in humidifying system).

If you decide to go for a kool two or three-finger leather case, I think the most important feature to look for is strength of the fingers - make sure they are reinforced so as not to put a squeeze on you're stogies. Many of the cheaper ones are nothing more than sleaves which do not protect against presure. But who knows, maybe you liked your puros on the flat side

Ive used a leather one though not too much and has been ok, bought an antique one off fleabay and put it in the bin, if you can, get a cedar lined one, all the best.

I think it depends on the quality of them as others have suggested. I have three finger and two finger leather cases and use them when going out and want to take a very small selection so I have a choice. They are good for show and I keep them in a jacket pocket to keep them safe.

I say just go for something you like the look of and be aware of it's limitations.

What do people think of the polished steel tubes? I was thinking of getting these, as surely they would last longer.

Yeah I have one of those too, got it as a gift with a flask in a leather pouch. Again looks good but beware to make sure the cigar inside it is a good fit as it can bounce about inside and get damaged.

Always a cigar caddy for me too. I have a five for day to day which is always goes in my satchel when i leave the house and a 15 for when I'm away for a few nights. f i was buying a cigar case t have in a suit pocket I think i'd buy a two stick caddy... looks a lot less classy but does a better job
