  • Don Pepin Garcia 601 review

Hardly feel qualified but I thought I present a review of one of my recent acquisitions courtesy of the G-Man:

    601 Serie Red Habano Robusto (5" x 50)

This is my first NC cigar and since the last 5 I've smoked have been some of the biggest hitters on the CC market it had a lot to live up to...

    [Unfortunately I wasn't thinking to take a picture mid-smoke]

Out of the cellophane the cigar was very clean and well made, nice and firm to the touch. The cap line was a bit messy however.

Lit very well (I tend to do all my smoking on the living-room sofa at the moment thanks to an understanding missus)

The beginning of the smoke was very very smooth and creamy with easily the most even burn I've had to date, a lovely solid ash with no coning whatsoever.

The middle of the smoke was delicious and my missus actually said 'oooh, I like that smell' just after I'd hit it (the middle of my smoke, not the missus).

I don't have the best pallete in the world (white wines taste like vinegar to me) so I can't describe the profile to you eloquently, but I will say this was a real 'steak and potato' flavour. Full though mild, earthy yet slightly sweet.

To cap it off, the sweet spot lasted easily the longest I've had. I smoked it down until I couldn't hold it any longer. I've found that some cigars get bitter as the smoke becomes hotter, but not this one.

(speaking of caps, the leaf around the punch hole did tear slightly, but I wasn't exactly pulling filler out of my teeth so I'm prepared to let that slide.)

Smoking time - around the 45-50mins

Considering my fave CC at the moment is the Epicure 2 to me this Pepin was like a slighter milder brother. I WILL be buying them again and I've got 4 other blends to get through.

    HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Good review there Steve, I'll have to try a review here sometime soon .

Think most Pepin Garcia cigars would get a good review from most smokers, certainly the 3 Pepin brands I have in the humidor (Cuban Classic, Blue Label and Series JJ) are in my opinion top NC.

                Fecking LOL. Ha.

Nice review. I've been meaning to try a few of the Don Pepin brands, never heard anything but good things about them.

I smoked the Trabuco size (6.1" x 58) and it was pretty good. I have a few more left.

The Green is the strongest from the 601 series.
