  • What are you listening to at the moment?...

I thought I'd bring in a thread that attracts a lot of post on a music forum I visit a lot.

It has more longevity than 'Who's your favourite artist?'. You can post when you listen to something different.

    I'll start...

Over the last few days, I have downloaded and listened in the car to (with great pleasure) an iTunes Essentials collection called The Great American Songbook.

Come Fly With Me - Frank Sinatra
Every Time We Say Goodbye - Rod Stewart
The Way You Look Tonight - Michael Buble
Ol' Man River - Paul Robeson
It's Only a Paper Moon - Rufus Wainwright
Unforgettable - Nat "King" Cole & Natalie Cole
    Stormy Weather - Etta James
They Can't Take That Away from Me - Diana Krall
Over the Rainbow - Judy Garland
Love for Sale - Shirley Horn
Night and Day - Cole Porter
It Had to Be You (Big Band and Vocals) - Harry Connick, Jr.
Someone to Watch Over Me - Linda Ronstadt
Beyond the Sea - Will Young
I Got Rhythm - Bobby Darin
Let's Call the Whole Thing Off - Sarah Vaughan
    Misty - Johnny Mathis
Let's Do It (Let's Fall In Love) - Alanis Morissette
My Funny Valentine - Chet Baker
The Lady Is a Tramp - Sammy Davis
    Summertime - Ella Fitzgerald
Singing In The Rain - Gene Kelly
In The Mood - The Puppini Sisters
Mack The Knife - Robbie Williams
As Time Goes By - Dooley Wilson
I've Got You Under My Skin

I prepared four of these songs for a private solo function last Friday. I enjoyed putting them out so much I decided I would learn some more when driving around...

...When I can get my younger son to stop playing endless Drum n Bass!... I have to admit I have warmed to BENGA a lot since having it rammed down my ears... The relentless sampled rhythms do drive me up the wall with most DnB...

Since swapping recordings by Transatlantic post with Larrysputnik of our own bands, and discussing some influences and likes in our own written music, I ended up recommending The Stone Roses and Ian Brown to Joe. The chat made me get four Ian Brown albums back on my iPod and I've been driving around in deep joy back and forwards to work. My favourite tracks are Dolphins Are Monkeys, and F.E.A.R.

I had to get a burst of Elton John on my way back from London yesterday so spent a great 90 minutes listening to his last CD The Captain And The Kid, and then a CD from 1992 called The One.

Elton John is not left unplayed for long by me.

I also enjoyed the CD Larry/Joe posted me last week VERY much. An intelligent crew playing TIGHTLY. Neat.

Good idea for a thread Bry,

At the moment I have the new Verve CD in the car, along with Duffy.....

But also ALWAYS have the Stones Roses Remix CD in the multi-changer...

This is what I'm listening too at the moment

HELP. The Coronavirus has had a devastating effect on my life and income as a working musician. If you've enjoyed this music, and it has lifted your mood...

                        Enjoy

I'll be lobbing a few clips from the big screen (alas) on there, no worries.

I was close enough to Elton John to lob a big book at him, and many unkind bastards said I should have done.
