  • Grumpy, Particulares

Jimmeh and I have both been watering at the mouth to get our hands on and try the Hoyo de Monterrey Particulares. While we know you can get these from the online retailers I was recently surprised to see them on display in the humidor at Davidof. Sitting on the shelf, available for purchase, in its individual coffin was this glorious looking cigar but I was rather taken aback to see it with the LE 2001 band on it. I spoke with Ed Jnr and he told me they had a good few in stock of this vintage production so would not be running out any time soon. They cost over forty pounds a stick so buying one was not a option for me at the time (or now).

Much to my annoyance when I popped back last week for a general nose about in the humidor one of the staff told me that a customer had taken a liking to these cigars and purchased them ALL! Another chance to try one of the great cigars has slipped through my fingers. I do not really know why I am posting about this but I suppose that I am just trying to tell you lot to try rare and semi-rare cigars when you have the chance. I keep hearing about the great cigars of the past and knowing I will probably never get to try them. Oh for a Hoyo Particulares, Maravillas and Monterrey. Oh for a Montercristo Maravillas, Robusto and Edmundo Dantes El Conde. Oh for a Cohiba "A", Sublime Extra and Behike.

This cigar passion is closer to torture at times. You do not only have to have money, but be in the right place at the right time, how tiresome.

P.S. I only recently found out about and got to handle a Cohiba "A", gosh folks, they lick so damn lick-able! LOL

No doubt. You have to actually read books to understand the references!

I read far too much, or so I am told, as I can be a bore on many subjects. Is there a particular text you are thinking of?
