Greetings to all forum members. I stumbled across the forum after googling cigar topics a few months ago now, and have visited the forum a few times since, and gained a lot of knowledge in that time. But it is now time to get more involved as I am getting more and more consumed with the subject of cigars and unfortunately the cost of my growing habit.
I have never smoked cigarettes, but have always liked the aroma given off by cigars but never smoked one until I went on holiday to Zante this summer. On the first day of the holiday we were browsing in one of the many supermarkets , which had a wide selection of cigars. Being a novice I purchased a single cellophane wrapped cigar which caught my eye (cannot even remember the brand) costing 1 euro which, I enjoyed that evening. For the rest of the holiday I drove my wife mad as I would purchase a different pack/brand each night arguing that I needed to try them all, to see which ones I would like best so that I could bring some home. All the cigars I tried were machine made, the more memorable ones being the Henri Winterman Half Corona, Villiger No4 and No7 and Guantanemera Cristales. The cristales were my first habanos and my favourite. Once my stash from holidays was running low I paid a visit to the Bear shop in Cardiff, who gave me some good advice and I picked a selection of five petit coronas (my first handmade habanos). They also gave me an empty cigar box as a makeshift humidor to store them in. After smoking them I was hooked, and have been back many times, for a chat and to try something else.
I have since only smoked handmade cigars, and would rather not smoke than have a cigarillo or a machine made cigar. I have due to the lower cost smoked non cuban cigars notably Carlos Torano dominicos, Charatan and Chinchalero, which I have purchased via UK online sites such as SimplyCigars and CGarsTld.
I now have two cigar boxes as humidors with a Credo stick in each which keeps my growing collection in perfect condition. I chose them as my image for this forum to remind me of where I started my journey in the cigar world. I may get a 100 stick humidor in the future but will use tupperware if need be until then.
Sitting outside in a warmer climate smoking a cigars with my wife (who smokes cigarettes - filthy habit) is a great pleasure and is not quite the same in good ol' Blighty, however we have spent many enjoyable evenings sitting in our utility room at the back of the house with the door open chattting and smoking. Neither of us like the smell of smoke in the main house.
I look foerward to being part of this forum and posting many questions and receiving advice from you all. Thanks for having me.
Oh by the way just to reassure the mexican I have my own cutters
