  • Spice?

I read this term in numerous cigar reviews and it doesn't make sense to me.

I understand what spices are but there are lots of different ones!

What do you understand from the term spice with relation to cigars? Is it a flavour, a sensation or what? What would I be experiencing to describe it as 'spice' or 'spicey'?

its that kick you get when you breathe the smoke out through your nose for me. its sensation more than flavour.

I would say it's the slightly hot/peppery flavour you sometimes get with a cigar

See this is why I'm confused-cinnamon and pepper are both spices but they have different sensations and tastes. So are you saying it's like a warm sensation?

recently posted an article explaining the comparisons with sugar and spice and all things nice.

They acknowledged that they don't actually taste these flavors but get the "sensation" that reminds 'em of spice, leather, toast, pencil lead, and shit.

          Hope this helps!

Aha! That makes sense. If I taste marshmallow, I taste marshmallow, but I did wonder wtf leather tasted like.

Who doesn't like the sensation of leather?

I've always wondered about the honesty of palet gurus 'cos we've only four types of receptors on our tongues - those for sweet, sour, salt and bitter. Everything else comes in via sense of smell.

As for 'spice' .... there must be hundreds of 'em .... same for 'woody' .... what wood, and who's eaten it to know!
If you want to, you can.
And, if you can, you must!

I've had this 'flavour chart' kicking around for months (which I found on Stogiefresh), and it identifies 'spice-y' quite nicely. It's comforting to see that spicy, is in fact spicy

Thanks for that! I'd not looked round the stogiefresh site before either. Lots of interesting stuff.
