  • Mr B Review - George's Reserve

Georges Reserve is a great smoke made by Oliva. This brand is my 'cult classic' of cigars; not many people know it's greatness, some people may frown down on it, but once you know it's magic, you'll love it forever.

Why is a great? Well I was gifted a few of these by my main man rokkit, I thought it was just another run of the mill Conneticut non-cuban. I like a conneticut, they look nice, they're mild and easy going, they just suit my needs, I always have time for a conneticut. But GR was something else; Being a graphic designer, the band looked cheap and cheerful, I know you shouldn't judge a book by it's cover, but this did look pretty cheapy.

So I lit one up, hang about, this is pretty damn good! A wash of super cream flavors (no bacon in this one gents), and softness on the pallete. The crazy thing with this smoke, is that the ash is amazing for such an under-rated cigar, I had one last night and the ash had to be a good 2 inches, and was coloured bleach white. I know ash colour depends on aciditity and location and such, and ash is down to how the cigar was made, but these are consistent smokes, every cigar is like this?!

I've not had one George that has let me down. I've found myself smoking these on my 'Cuban weekends' (I normally smoke CC's on the weekend) instead of my cubans.

It's my 'go-to smoke' aswell as being a 'luxury smoke', it does both jobs. The Toro and the Torp (sounds like a kids book?!....that gives me an idea) are nicely sized, smoke well, and are just great imo.

If you like Oliva, you will love George. Try one, you won't be dissappointed, and if you are....then it only cost you $3!

    Get georgin'!

Bugger, I thought these were Rokitt's own personal brand.

Having said that, George (Rok) sent me a few and I've smoked one which I really enjoyed. Great smoke for me, mild and tasty. Not as complex as a Cuban but a great regular day smoke and I'm delighted to say I have a few more nestled in my Humidor, Might even spark one up on Friday.

Nice review. Kind of torn here...don't really go for the conny wrappers but that underlying cammy binder and love of all things Oliva (haven't met one I didn't like yet) have me curious. Might just have to keep an eye out for this one.

          Thanks Mr. B

Couldn't agree more, MB. Odd thing is (as I've told a few of you) I originally stumbled on these accidentally and only bought them for the name. Great gag gift. Well, imagine my surprise when I found out they were actually quite a nice smoke. What a bonus! I especially enjoy the fact that every GR I've smoked has been consistent in construction, taste, and the odd business about the ash. This stogie holds on to it's ash tenaciously! To wit:

and this was outside, on a breezy evening, and I wasn't coddling the cigar.
