  • Real or fake - The eternal question

Hello everyone, I'm writing from the other side of the Atlantic in Montreal.

I found your forum while researching on the matter that I'm about to discuss. I'm glad I found a place that appears to have many active members!

I've been interested in cigars for about 5 years but I just started getting serious.

I stumbled uppon an add on Craigslist for Cohibas Robusto. Though I was very suspicious I asked the seller to send me pictures and this is what I got:

Now I am aware of the obvious signs that these are fakes:

    • Seals NOT on the box
    • Authenticity seal printing quality is off and paper is too shiny
    • No factory code or date on bottom of the box

However the rest of the box appears right; looks like cedar and the ribbon looks correct as well.

I visited the Partagas factory last October and was offered cigars by workers about 6 or 7 times. Could these have been smuggled out by workers who then sell them on the street. I know it sounds far fetched but in Cuba you never know...

The seller is asking $100 for the box or $5 each. I'm supposed to meet him tomorrow, told him I'd take two, I'll post more photos when I get them.

    What do you guys think?

Just had a look at your Cohiba gutting thread, sorry about your unlucky purchase :s

The box looks a lot like the one I'm being offered. it also looks a lot like the box of Siglo II that I have at home (purchased at the Partagas factory store in Habana so I know it's real)

Hi Nolif...I'd give them a wide berth mate. All the points you raised are spot on...no stamp, seals not on the box etc are a 100% give-away. Definitely fakes

Save yourself some cash and buy from our sponsor (click the banner at the top of the page)

Or, buy one, smoke it there and then and decide....do you know much about CoRos and how they're meant to taste?

              Best
              Steve

The box looks so real it just makes me wonder if the cigars are even with all the obivious "FAKE" signals. I'll get the two: one to smoke the other will be gutted. Maybe they're decent fakes and at that price I might buy them to give them to non-afficionados.

You can wish all you want, lad, but those bad boyz are fake, fake, counterfeit.

Buy if you want, they might make a great addition to the counterfeit section in your humidor, but don't hold your breath hoping they will be very good or even close to a genuine Cohiba.

The box may be real but that doesn't mean the cigars that are inside are! Also, only $5 would be an instant flag for me.

Will you be posting photos of the second one?

I'm aware the price gives it away the most. I guess I am "Wishing, and Hoping, and dreaming, and praying" well... not praying!

I'll post photos for sure maybe even make a review of how it smokes

It will be added to the compendium of fake cigar threads on the net.

Stickers aren't attached. Notch on the cedar inlay is horizontal and not curved, the seal is awful, no factory code. 100% fake, don't even bother buying one, it's utterly pointless.
